Moving to Norway?

I would commit a crime just to be sent to prison in Norway. Ridiculous how a prison treats its inmates better than the US treats its citizens.

But yeah, prisons in Scandinavia are mostly better. Some to extreme degrees. The simple reasoning is a split in rehabilitation and punishment. A prison focusing on rehabilitation won't make your life hell.

We have prisons here that are basically miniature cities. Own apartments. Bathrooms, kitchens, Bedrooms, Keys. You receive education and maintain a job. That job you get paid for to the same or a very similar degree as you would outside prison. You can take that money to buy your groceries and other things. Some degree is paid in reparation. This is not the model everywhere but it is increasingly common.

No freedom is punishment. Limited choice is punishment. Not getting to see or be with the people you want to be with is punishment. At some point the punishment ends and you hsve to go back to life. At that point if you have some money saved up, learned to be a talented chef and still remember how normal society works that helps. A lot.

America isn't as bad as we all make it sound. Although the prisons tend to not care about rehabilitating beyond reading the bible.

I do believe a version of what I described could be used to great effect in the U. S. Not for every crime but for some. A very important keypart is that actual work is being produced. That means the prisoner is NOT a cost on society but earns their own living (base necessities covered even if they don't of course but). Furthermore with a small degree of income used for reparation, victims and general society can get some financial aid back. Turning prisoners from an economic cost to a (potential) economic gain. Without resorting to forced labour or inhumane methods.

The fact it is financially viable I think could persuade many.

Thank you. That was very informative. I have to tell you as an American but the people in this country are so angry and so full of hate than any opportunity and vengeance is regarded as being quite valuable. All of that hate that they hold comes directly from the fact that they are always struggling to just keep their heads above water financially. Thanks to the lovely system we have that rewards 20% of the population and screws the other 80%. There is no financial equality whatsoever in this country and the system is rigged to trash most people.

Well in these countries you don't have a permanent criminal class so that we have the most incarcerated people out of any other country . we just have too many people that need to be locked up to be able to afford making them into resorts

@msc545 If it is such a failure why does everyone want to be the United States? Cuba had a good economy and it's citizens had a decent standard of living. When Castro took the country into Communism the Soviet Union propped it up the whole time supplying it with machinery and money. When the Soviet Union collapsed the money was shut off and Cuba was thrown into poverty. There was a food shortage and a higher level of unrest. I think it will be a capitalist nation eventually.

A lot of people that come to the US do so because they have been fooled into thinking that this is a wonderful place where they will make a lot of money and live peacefully forever. This is more a testament to the quality of US propaganda than it. Is anything else. Those of us that live here and know that it is not a wonderful place to get rich at all. It is also not a peaceful place. Do a significant degree. Most of the country is quite dangerous. We have a terrible unfair economic system that impoverishes most people and only enriches a few people. We have a health care system that would be more appropriate for a banana Republic. Everyday in this country people starve to death or die from treatable diseases because they cannot afford health care. If the truth were known, nobody would ever immigrate to this country for any reason.

I've already responded to this. Just read upwards please. However, in response yet again, not everybody that comes here is indigent or poor. If they are indigenous or poor. That is the fault of the United States and their international monetary fund. It is not their own fault. You should not bother you so much because if they are indigents or poor, that means you can get them to do slave labor for under minimum wage or for free Even sometimes if you feed them. Isn't this the goal of all capitalists?

The only language I can speak is English. The places I would like to go do not have a large proportion of English speaking people.
