I been told it does not because genders are different. I think it does because you are treating them different but they are doing the same thing.

+1 ySounds like you are doing some introspection here which can be good. Most women conveniently never consider societal double standards that benefit them because they falsely assume men benefit from tons do double standards. Either that women think denying this fact will magically make it go away and nobody will notice. Well guys ARE noticing and you wonder why so many of us are just angrier and angrier with women.
In we enjoy very few (and those are usually get out on the spotlight). We used 1) have a double standard about our partners promiscuity and sexual history 2) be able to date younger and prettier if we are established.
That is just about it for men though. However even these limited double standards have been put under extreme scrutiny by society and fewer and fewer men are get away with that nowadays. But I could give you a list of double standards women have enjoyed and still enjoy and take for granted a mile long. Even in our so called “modern” world they are still very alive and well
Anyway the number one double standard (that I can’t stand) is many women have higher standards for the guy they date than they have for themselves. It’s called hypergamy.
Back in the so called “patriarchal” days women were given special clout just because and only because they were women. This “I’m special just because I have a vagina” attitude unfortunately has never gone away and it’s something feminists will conveniently never own up to.
Men know damn well we aren’t “special” just for existing. The harsh reality is it’s sink or swim with what we do with our lives. We can’t count on anybody to save because no one ever will. We are expendable.
The next time you find yourself enjoying a double standard and feel a pang of guilt about it you need to ask yourself how do you usually respond to it? Do you quickly think of some assumed double standard men enjoy? Even if you have seen a man enjoy that so called unfair benefit, is it pertinent to the exact same man you are dealing with? Are you being fair to him? Or are you taking advantage of him just because an unrelated man took advantage of you somewhere in the past?
This particular man’s reality of what he experiences with you is only through his interactions with you. Period. He is not guilty of some other man’s real or perceived past transgressions against you. You are not self justified to milk a double standard in the current moment just because you got the short end of the stick with someone else in the past.

@KrakenAttackin one thing I can say about this girl is at least she’s aware the double standard and is feeling some guilt about it. That’s better than 90% of the other women out there who abuse this crap.
The question is how will she handle the guilt?

+1 yA hypocrite is someone who pretends to have some sort of virtue but really doesn't. A hypocrite would be, say, a priest who preaches about morality, etc and presents themselves as the epitome of what he is talking about but behind closed doors molests children. People usually use it to refer to people who say one thing but they're another but unless they're pretending to also be what they're saying then they're not really a hypocrite. A convicted criminal might give a speech about the need to obey the law but they're not a hypocrite unless they're pretending that they've always been a law abiding citizen.
A double standard is where you believe that one group of people should be treated differently based on some criteria. You might think it's ok if a female teacher has a relationship with a male student but think the opposite is disgusting.
Answer no, double standards doesn't make you a hypocrite.
Hypocrite applies to the indivdual.
whereas Double standards applies to all females, all muslims or all black people.

+1 yIt makes you a hypocrite if you know it's double standards. When people say it's because they are different things, then they see it as not "double," but just a "different" standard. 2 different things should have 2 different standards.
It's when 2 things are similar enough that they should have the same standard that doubles happen, but if they don't believe the things are similar enough to use the same standard, then they still wouldn't be a hypocrite, just wrong.
Ex. One way women and men are similar is that they are both rational, so they should both be held to the standard of rational morality. Yet some ancient philosophers doubled that standard to lower it for only women. But they weren't hypocrites, just wrong, because they did it because they believed women weren't as rational as men and so required a different standard.
30 Reply3.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Yeah if it is actually a double standard.
But there are things that indeed work for one thing but not another.
For example if one thought short hair does not look good on women but does on men that's not hypocritical the sex and one's perspective of sexuality actually does make a difference to why this may be the case.
Otherwise then it would be double standard to not be Bi and stuff.
So while what your meaning won't be these examples I am sure, and you would of been more talking about "Women can't sleep around but guys can" which don't make any sense and for sure is just hypocritical. There is times things are just different.12 Reply
+1 yHaving a double standard can make someone a hypocrite, regardless of whether the individuals being treated differently are of different genders or not. A double standard occurs when someone applies different rules or expectations to different people or situations, even though they should be treated the same. This can be seen as hypocritical because the person is not following their own standards or beliefs consistently. So, if someone is treating two individuals differently for doing the same thing, it can be considered a double standard and therefore hypocritical.
20 Reply1.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. In most situations it does but not always.
For example if a short woman wants a tall man, but she is slim and will accept him being a little overweight it isn't a double standard in my opinion, but if she expected him to have MORE desirable qualities than she does then that would be a double standard/hypocritical. Like if she expected him to be tall, strong, not fat at all, make good money, etc., but she made little or no money, was fat, and weak, that WOULD be a a hypocritical double standard.
00 Reply671 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. By definition, it can. But certain ways of being hypocritical are more dangerous than others. So sometimes it's not a bad thing. For instance, we're all hypocritical with what we'll tolerate from a loved one vs a stranger. Especially a stranger we don't like. But that's not inherently a bad thing. How bad it is depends on how far a person is willing to go with it. It's only as bad as how much evil the person is capable of dishing out.

+1 yHypocrisy is the practice of preaching one thing and acting totally different. Do what I say, not what I do. Double standards are the practices of unfair application of a single rule on different sets of people.
One example of a hypocrite would be a preacher who gives fire-and-brimstone sermons condemning adultery, but who is having a secret affair on the side, himself.
A double standard would be Katy Perry forcing a kiss on a guy on the lips when he didn't want it, getting no problems while an actor forcing a kiss on the lips of some girl when she didn't want it and getting in trouble for it.

Hypocrisy
Granted, they can overlap, with many double standards being hypocritical, but not always.
04 Reply- +1 y
Yes, that would be hypercritical, but also statutory rape on both sides, unless they're adults, therefore I wouldn't have any say in the matter, anyway.
- +1 y
You can't fir example be hypocritical fir calling a woman a slut for being promiscuous and not a man because the term slut means promiscuous woman. Thay would require a different word that means promiscuous man.
12.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Depends on the context.
Not liking rapists, but liking mass murderers, is a double standard which would be troubling. But not liking milkshake but liking ice-cream is a double standard which is not.
A "hypocrite" is a person who doesn't care about double standards, unless it negatively affects them.
00 Replydo you mean like having different standards for a son vs a daughter vs preaching someone should do something while you yourself are doing the opposite?
in that situation one is a hypocrite while the other is double standards and they are different130 Reply- +1 y
your question was is double standard and being a hypocrite the same and they are not. the definition of both are not the same and its irrelevant to the situation
here they are again..
noun: double standard; plural noun: double standards
a rule or principle which is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups.
noun: hypocrisy; plural noun: hypocrisies
the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; - +1 y
hypocrisy is independent of a double standard. its taking a moral stance on something or an action or whatever while you are doing the opposite.
Like say a priest is preaching how evil it is to be gay all while in his private life he is having sex with guys. what he is saying and what he is doing is making him a hypocrite because he is doing the opposite of what he is saying. that's different then having a double standard and having different rules based on gender or whatever the double standard is
- +1 y
What they believe is irrelevant. If I'm preaching how men and women should always be treated identical in every situation.. but I have a double standard based on gender then that would make me a hypocrite but it's not the double standard by itself that causes the hypocrisy. Its me saying something should happen and doing something else. So in some instances having a double standard can also mean you are a hypocrite but they are still different and you need the preaching of one thing and doing the opposite for it to be hypocritical
- +1 y
If you are preaching that men and women are different and should be treated differently and have a double standard based on that then there is no hypocrisy.. you have a double standard but no hypocrisy..
The hypocrisy is when your actions are the opposite of what your saying should be or happen. - +1 y
The hypocrisy is again saying one thing and doing the opposite, that's not the definition of double standard that just means you have 2 different rules.
You should wait to have marrge before having sex all while you are out fucking whoever before marriage would be hypocrisy.. your saying one thing.. don't have sex.. while doing the opposite.. having sex - +1 y
Context would only matter if you applied that context in your moral position.
If you said all drug dealers should belong in jail all while your boyfriend is a pot dealer that would make you a hypocrite.
If you said all drug dealers belong in jail with the exception of pot dealers and your boyfriend was a pot dealer you would have a double standard for drug dealers and because you specified the context of your moral stance you are not a hypocrite - +1 y
If for example you heard a story where a pot dealer gave some 16 year old some pot, and you where taking the stance that he should be arrested all for taking advantage of a minor. And you said you would do the same thing if you ever had a kid in a similar situation.. but we find out that a pot dealer gave you pot when you where 16 and your not going to turn him in because you think he is nice.. that would make you a hypocrite. Your calling for action when you are doing the opposite
- +1 y
no because you gave your opinion on what should happen in a real life situation that has nothing to do with you or a hypothetical kid of your own and your opinion on what should be done is in direct conflict with your own situation and what you didn't do. that's literally the definition of hypocrisy
+1 yAs long as there is correlation between the things in question yes you'll be a hypocrite, if the things just happen to be in a similar category it's fine because they don't directly impact each other
10 ReplyAre there double standards? Yes. But a lot of the ones we talk a out today are really only coming to light now because women took all the things they hated about men and then decided let's just do it too.
