Do you sometimes realize you have double standards?

Question

For example,

I have a close family friend, who’s 45+ year old and has a husband as well as a boyfriend 12 years younger than her.

Both men take good care of her, cherish her and pamper her, they both love her,

both men know about each other’s existence and they are fine with that, they even gift things to one another, however, their time with the woman is limited,

they don’t meet her together, they have their separate time with her.

When I heard of this, I never judged her and felt like “It’s good for her, as long as she’s happy.”

Even though she thinks it’s very difficult to be with two men together.

Now, if I heard the same story about a man, I might have criticized him deep down in my heart.

I guess, I have double standards.

It’s good I can admit and let it go. When I realize I have double standards, world seems much more of a fair place, because I can’t judge people for something I’d not judge my friends and family for.

You're acting like a typical feminist, it's always okay for them to do what suits them and makes them happy but always wrong for them to what a man does if it doesn't suits them, here's where the double standards starts...

In my mind things works like this: 1 man + 1 woman, i ain't going to share my woman with anyone, she is only mine forever and her eyes can only see me and i'll be her everything, no questions, no debates no nothing, if you're going to say that this is dictatorship than i'm glad to be a dictator!

At least i'll remain a human and won't turn into an animal...

Well sure , Id certainly judge the example given negatively also.

I appreciate in all honesty that I have double standards about many things , but I dont classify then like that , because in my opinion the circumstances are different , for example , cultural issues here , you know how a Thai person should act , and this should be followed , but you will judge the Farang doing same as just stupid , but its different.

Same thing with men / women , and gays/ straights , plus all sorts of other examples , there are many examples of reasonable double standards , call it as you will.

Oh yes. I have lot of work which I need to do on myself.

One of my good friend when she cheated my her boyfriend, I literally made up my mind convincing myself "It must be the guy who didn't treat my friend properly".

Now I realize how foolish that was after knowing the complete story. I would agree that I am (used to be) too quick to judge a man.

Everyone has double standards. It’s only natural that you have them towards your own gender/sex. It’s expected that when you see another girls well is winning in the detriment of men is a good thing, but the other way around would be unacceptable. Because once it hits close to home things change.

I don't think there's anything disingenuous about your beliefs in those two scenarios, because you're just responding to your inner preferences. Double standards are only a potential problem when they're held by non-females, as far as I'm concerned.

Down to the person. I think people need to understand that polygamy isn't just a term sleezebags use to try and get out of responsibility for cheating. If you stress a desire to date multiple people and the other person consents then having sex with other people isn't cheating hell even dating emotionally can be on the table it depends on the people in that relationship and what they consent to. Not for me though I would be jealous as fuck lol.
