"I come now to Egypt, of which I will speak at length; for, compared to any other country, it is she who contains the most wonders. "

Just another bunch of White guys building monuments... People act like it's so mysterious how people moved large rocks when there's are White guys in the middle of America doing this shit for fun on a regular basis...

https://www.youtube.com/embed/oh3y4FydRNUHighly interesting. They were the first to figure how to put up walls that stayed up. And could predict the nile floods. The best Egyptian museum I have been in was in Torino Italy. I was amused by a scroll that was complaining the workers were wanting more money to keep on building. Union problems aren't new.
It is disputed if Egypt developed writing independently of Sumeria but some of our letters derive from Egyptian writing through interlocutors - that is impressive.
And of course the pyramids and the Sphinx are iconic in a way that nothing else can be.
It is outstanding that Egypt was ancient in Herodotus's time and he was clearly impressed but found it odd women stood to urinate and men crouched to urinate.
We spent many happy holidays when my parents owned property in Dahab, so travelled quite extensively through Egypt.
We always found the Egyptians to be both helpful and interesting people and their culture and civilisation is totally beyond belief... Fascinating, Exciting, Amazing and quite honestly bewildering.
I would dearly love to return just to visit the new Cairo Museum, where I know I could easily spend a lifetime there!
It was indeed such a shame that my parents decided (quite rightly) to sell up, when all the political troubles flared up years ago.

It's interesting but I don't find it to be the best and I think it's quite over represented. While it's true that they're like the earliest one compared to other civilizations which makes them seem impressive, era meant nothing to development that time because because development in that era varies on population density so that doesn't really make them superior to the later civilizations like the Chinese and Mayan civilizations which caught up due to their population rising. It is also just like how Europe rise to be really powerful in the medieval times building sturdy castles which is also basically in an era where there's no electricity and machines just like in ancient times.
The most amazing thing about it is how long it lasted.
Egypt was unified around 3000bc and it was integrated into the Roman Empire in 30bc.
The last pharaoh Cleopatra had more time separated from herself and the time of the pyramids being built then we have time separated from her.
Egypt was extremely advanced for its time - and the pyramids remain one the most amazing examples of large scale construction. Often overlooked, the New Kingdom (still 1200 BC!) temples at Karnak are also pretty amazing.
Their architecture, scientific knowledge, their old religion, the mysteries, every thing is so fascinating.
Interesting funerary architecture but other than that not much..
I love it and I've always wondered how they build the pyramids
I find them exceedingly interesting
Pffft... Kinda overrated xD
