Why are these people in charge of our economy? Are they loyal to the USA? Do they have the interests of this country (or world) in mind? Why are we paying them interest on money they create out of thin air?

Actually, the Fed is owned by the member banks. The member banks get to appoint six of the nine directors of each federal reserve bank. So the question is who controls the member banks (private or publicly traded businesses)? I would argue that the most significant shareholders in this sense are Blackrock, Vanguard, and State Street. These three asset management firms are collectively major shareholders in 90% of publicly traded companies and numerous private corporations, including the banks. Also, they hold $22 trillion in assets, which is well over half of the total market cap of the S&P 500.

So who owns these asset management firms? Well, some of them own shares of each other. Vanguard is owned by all of its investors. Blackrock was started by seven partners (Larry Fink being the most famous) but they only own a bit more than 3% of the firm. So you could say that a multitude of people have a stake in these firms, and these firms have more ownership of the banks than any other non-governmental entity, and as such they also have more ownership of the Federal Reserve Bank, indirectly. So everything is owned by a multitude that form our elite class, but no individual elite exerts real control through their tiny slice of the pie.

This brings us to the managerial revolution that took place before and after world war two. The old capitalist elites (like the original owners of the banks) were swept out of power in part due to the complexity of running major corporations and also, I would argue, the nature of the monetary system and the massive inflation of the money supply. There are so many owners it is rare for an owner to have power in any corporation with the exception of some founding partners. Owners no longer wield control; the managerial class does. And the most powerful manager in this country is arguably Larry Fink, but there are other important managers in the other asset management firms and in major corporations that wield incredibly strong political influence.

So who owns the Fed? Just about everyone with substantial wealth. Who influences it the most? The managers of the asset management firms and entities that have the largest ownership stakes in the member banks.

Furthermore, there are implications of having managers instead of owners wield control. Owners used to face personal financial consequences due to their executive decisions. Today, only a small portion of the economy is under the control of this sort of capitalist. The government runs more than half of all economic activity in the US and the remainder is almost completely under the control of managers who serve, theoretically, on behalf of owners. It is rare, however, for owners to throw out a managerial team, and when they do the owners are often asset management firms or pension funds that are run by…managers. The (mostly extinct) capitalist owner has incentive to make good long term decisions for the health of his company because this is how he is rewarded. The (currently dominant) class of managers does not have substantial ownership of what he controls, and his heirs will have no influence on how things are run. He therefore simply makes decisions to personally enrich himself in the short term, or in the case of the bureaucrat managing government-run economy secure his advancement. His legacy is therefore his personal luxury or his power, depending on whether he is in the corporations or in government. Worse, a manager like Fink who is driven by ideology to ingratiate himself with the other ruling elites, is incentivized to force the businesses in his charge to make decisions that are disastrous to properly running business, like hiring for demographic characteristics instead of competence and producing products that nobody wants like fake meat. So we are beginning to see a radical increase in inefficiency.

Can we think of another system that was owned by many but run by managers without ownership? A system that malinvested and misallocated funds on an ideologically driven basis? A system that tried to control speech, cancel dissidents, did all it could to stamp out real owner-controlled enterprises through regulation and law, and was authoritarian as America is on track to become? You guessed it: the USSR. Welcome to the Soviet future of America, today.

yea, someone tore up the constitution and threw into the trash can long before we showed up. that's why we have this particular mess we have, rather than a different mess. Jefferson saw it coming... the "experiment" didn't last long. Regarding a recent post from @msc545 about a quote from Trump... all those soldiers over time, largely died in vain. The federal reserve is just a part of the US govt system that manages banking and the money supply.
