The Taiwanese are a very pragmatic bunch.

When they see their government being too hostile towards China they will elect a Pro China government. When they see their government being too cosy with China they will elect a more hardline anti-China government.

Either way both can't live without each other. Many Taiwanese men have mistresses from China. Many Taiwanese businesses their biggest customer is China.

A war? China isn't really that silly to start a war that even if they won they would ultimately lose. It's one thing to invade an island, it's a totally separate matter to occupy and unify it especially where the population don't want to be unified.

US being involved in the war? US is a lot smarter than to be involved in a war that it has nothing to gain.

That will not happen for at least another five years, Red China still does not have the troop landing capacities needed for an all-out invasion of Taiwan. Also, in the same way the PRC are increasing their offensive weapons, Taiwan increases their defensive capabilities (among them numerous U. S. weapon deliveries).

In any case, such an invasion would be a bloodbath, with or without an U. S. intervention.

the us military and specialists think there's an 70-90% chance of it happening if china doesn't change its mind about taiwan in the next 2 decades... so there's that..

Probably not. China’s show of force is a reaction to the U. S. visit. I doubt they want to get bogged down in a costly long term conflict like Russia is in Ukraine.

Surely, even if it starts it will might end up like Ukraine war and USA will lose everything and run away like in Afghanistan due to support of Russia and Iran where they have the advanced weapons and defense system. russia could have end the war with Ukraine with their weapons but they won't to cause a complete destruction to the civilians. that is why the Russia is targeting precisely on Ukrainian troops which is backed by Russia, china and Iran. before that America will go down due to de-dollarisation.

To put it bluntly, China is a country facing social and economic collapse right now. They are not in a particularly good position to launching any wars if they get to choose. The only way I see a war starting is if both sides makes a mistake at the same time. Fairly unlikely since neither side wants this war.

Chine can't face USA army and economy yet and the military butggest is ridiculos.
