Should the US Dollar still be circulated as paper currency or switch to coin?

@msc545 just asked a question about the penny. Many countries that use the Dollar as a currency have eliminated the paper note and replaced it with a coin. Should the US do the same?

We've had them in coin form for a very long time but nobody uses them. For a while, they brought it back but they were just a bit bigger than a quarter and people were too stupid to tell the difference.

The Sakagawea dollar. We had a gold dollar for a while, too. They were going to release a new one every few weeks or so, each with another President on the front.

Yes as long as it is a coin that looks like a silver dollar and not a quarter.

Several times- it always fails, because the coin made isn't readily and quickly distinguished from a quarter.

What makes it all the more frustrating is that you could do ANYTHING with it- it won't be accepted by vending machines, so make it bigger on one side, or shape it like a triangle, or put a hole in the middle like the Canadians do. But no- we just keep getting something that feels like a quarter, and it never catches on.
