Leave it on. To be sure it mainly pleases those who have a religious sensibility.
However, it also harks back to the nation's historical heritage and intellectual patrimony. It is a necessary reminder of the nation's origins and of the wellsprings of its' political philosophy.
As Disraeli said, "A nation's liberties are embodied in its' institutions, the march of intellect is not enough." By placing the national motto on the nation's currency, it animates, to be sure in a subconscious way, those intellectual traditions that have given the nation its' distinct sources of nationhood and freedom.
I disagree, the founding fathers did not agree that our nation should believe in God. This was the product of The United States reaction to the rise of communism. The 1950’s gave us this phrase and although there are plenty of good ideas to come out of the 50’s, making the US - previously a nation that has prided itself on religious freedom for all - now a nation under “God”. Basically cementing that it was a Christian nation and not a place for all religions. It’s like saying the Christian’s hold the power and we’ll tolerate everyone else but look at the money, listen to the pledge now…you’re with us now. It just goes against the first amendment and the separation of Church and State.
@Jay3344 You misunderstood me. I did not mean to suggest that the Founders argued that the nation should believe in God. (Though certainly some argued that case.)
Rather that it - specifically Christianity - was part of the nation's cultural heritage. To make reference to that source of ideas is then, on the whole a positive thing. It being recalled that bad things follow where man conceives of himself as " a self-made man who worships his creator."
We stand on the cultural and intellectual heritage of giants. It is well to have reminders of that fact in visible places.
Well said, but I think it could be argued that it has no place on our currency. It’s almost hypocritical to the tenants that Christ preached to have money associated with a subservience before God. I still think having the motto displayed in this way is not really in line with Americas agreed beliefs. Freedom of religion for all and the separation of church and state. Our president is not the head of the church, our government is not the clergy. It’s an important distinction to make and to reinforce.
@Jay3344 Yes, but we are a creedal nation - "a nation dedicated to a proposition" as Lincoln put it. Certain ideas, principles and ideals define the American states and the American sense of self, some of these, like it or not, having their origins in religion. (Especially the Protestant Reformation.)
The idea that this should be erased from historical memory can only lead to unhappy consequence. This can also be seen in the tearing down of statues and other recent phenomena of this kind.
Erase man's sense of his past. Erase those things that attach him to his past, and he becomes a sort of "silly putty" to be re-shaped and molded according to the will of those who are willing to fill the vacuum with their own ideas.
For recent historical examples, see also the communists in Russia, the Fascist in Italy and, of course, the Nazis in Germany. Once the institutions and memories and principles of the "old order" had been erased, new ideologies moved in to fill the vacuum.
To recur - on our currency, on our buildings and in other structures and institutions - to those principles and ideals that have defined and animated the state is a helpful tool in making those principles, and that history, real. That, on the whole, is preferable than recurring to an abstract perfectionism - and in any case your argument is not rock solid - that erases history in the name of principle, and thereby undermines the very principles it is nominally supposed to enhance.
Absolutely should remain.
@Oatmeal2 bingo. There's not a single human being on the planet with normal mental faculties that's truly upset to their core about "IN GOD WE TRUST" on our money.
My brother forced me to take SCUBA lessons with him, and get our certificate. Our teacher told us about a lake where the catfish are so fucking stupid that you could pet them on their head. He was right. Our goal wasn't about exploring the waters, it was about fishing for seafood, and putting food on the table.
When I hear about the Republicans crying about something, I view them as those docile catfish we ate.
Why in the flying fuck hasn't Joey been impeached?
@Oatmeal2 The republicans are worthless. They sit idly by while our country is destroyed. All because they're worried about being called "nazis".
Do you still dive?
No. Diving in cold lakes isn't fun. I'd rather watch MSNBC than struggle to put on a wetsuit. Our final exam was in a Northwest lake, during a snowstorm. I'm sure you're familiar with an ice cream headache? Well, the whole thing was a headache. The best part, was that one of our classmates was a crop duster. The lake was 100 miles away, and he invited my brother and I to fly on his plane. It wasn't his crop duster plane, it was his "Lake" plane. A "Lake" is an amphibious plane. It had a "push prop." I'm not sure why that is good or bad. Our pilot landed on the lake, dropped the wheels, and rolled us onto shore!
Scuba diving in cold water... Sucks shit.
Having people stare at you and think you're part of a James Bond movie... priceless!
@Oatmeal2 lol, yeah I stick to warm water diving. No way would you get me in that kind of muck. The only ice I want to see when diving is in my drinks.
@Oatmeal2 lol. I do know a guy who rescues costa sunglasses from the bottom of the lake, he turns around and has them replaced under their warranty and sells them. Find where people party on sand bars and focus there, lol.
I agree with both of you. Both of your comments are well said.

Yes and while we are at it let’s permanently ban “Merry Christmas” and “Happy Easter”. Let’s remove anything and I do mean anything that might be have any reference to anything religious especially if refers to Christianity. All of it and I do mean all of is and only is a direct reference to the evil patriarchy, racism, homophobia and now transphobia.
None of it could ever be a term of endearment or reference to values that symbolism freedom, good will and opportunities whether religious or secular. It’s all evil. Let’s lose sleep over it and move forward to “a utopia” of banning religion from society in general.
Just the fact that mainstream religion encourages community, family, marriage and adherence to values that can lead to long term fulfillment and happiness is such a horrible thing. We need to preach embracing whatever “feels good” in the moment as “your truth”. Never think long term.
Religious organizations never do anything good for society. Never. The fact they have created countless charities, orphanages and homeless shelters to help the suffering must all be postering. No way that faith has ever motivated anyone to help other people. Never. The only way we can help other people is via mandatory top down authoritarianism where cultural elites get to decide who gets help and who doesn’t. Then we will force onerous taxation on the masses to make it happen. Who cares what it does to the economy. Just think of right now.
So let’s find isolated incidents of Catholic priests and Jewish rabbis who were involved with pedophilia and fixate on that as representative of all religion. Let’s call motherhood “enslavement” of women. However we will say it’s wrong to label Islam as inherently violent when radical terrorists commit heinous acts. That one is different. Hands off there.
So let’s put on “Satan-Con” conferences were we act all “brave” by showing videos of people tearing up Bibles (but let’s not dear do that to the Q’ran).
Yes a Godless society is utopia. The fact that past godless communist regimes resulted in oppression, genocide and misery must of all been an aberration somehow.
And this rant right here is why God’s name should be removed from our currency.
Associating God with people with these views is just as bad as associating Jesus with the Devil.
Why continue to drag God’s name through the mud by associating his name with people who talk like this? Makes God look like a cuckhold.
Same with saying “God bless America” we ought to be saying “God pass judgment on America” or “God have mercy on America, for our sins as a nation are heaped as high as heaven.”
@anon
Don’t bother responding. Not interested in you blaspheming my God any more or seeing any comment profaning God as “sky daddy” or Jebus or whatever crap. Feel free to not believe in God, and hate all that embodies the concept of him. You won’t charge my opinion, so let’s not bother having the conversation.
@anon
I have to apologize and back way up. I didn’t realize you were using satire and sarcasm. I only got through the first paragraph or so. Didn’t read it all.
Oh the folly of one who speaks without listing to the whole matter.
My humble apologies again.
In fact I’m in full agreement with the thrust of your point.
Most people don't know or forgot that our nation's founders were very religious people. This country was literally built on the foundation of Christianity.
I'm not even religious and I believe that if we lose sight of that, it will lead to our collapse.
Whether you like it or not, those are some pretty solid values. Without values, all you have left is everyone with their dicks and heads up eachother's ass, and a whole lot of chaos
Yeah, it should be replaced with: “in gender politics we trust” or “the cult of Woke will set you free.”
Something that reflects our true values on the whole.
America does not love God nor regard him as anyone of significance. Therefore, we should remove God’s name from our money lest we tarnish his reputation by associating his name with us, as we are in fact godless and as a society disdain God and his ordinances.
I’d never want my name associated with Woke America and I can’t imagine God would want his name tarnished by association us. Not at this point in our history at least.
Keep it. I am not sure why that would be an issue especially given the challenges we face today. It’s stupid sh! t like this that keep us from tackling big issues like the deficit and the craziness that is about to unfold as potential debt default is looming.
What are you talking about? …conservatives hold the second amendment as sacred…is it wrong to think the first amendment is something that can trans be parties? Freedom of religion in this country so why force God onto the Money? God is specific to only sone religions and doesn’t allow for a freedom of religion when printed on the nations currency. To just brush this aside and say it’s stupid shit is a spot in the face of all the founding fathers and unpatriotic in all respects. It’s the first amendment for a reason and shows the importance of freedom of expression in the country. So maybe consider that when dispelling it as liberal nonsense or things that the other team doesn’t respect. Seems like you are for tribalism over America.
In God is not connected to anyone religion. I believe it should be removed because it was only added to fight Communism. As much as a capitalist as I am at the same time I am not paranoid. In God We Trust as we can see has people making up history about it being connected to the creation of the United States. The founding fathers left Britain to escape forced religion
Our nation was founded on the basis of wanting our religious freedom. And we should always keep God in our minds and in our hearts. It also pays homage to God. Even though there are a few people that will State against having God imprinted upon our currency.
Removed, because how many Americans even believe in God anymore? It used to be 'E Pluribus Unum' (i. e. 'out of many, one'), and it was during the 1950's that the change was made.
I don't think it should be on there. We're supposed to have a separation of church and state.
Replace it with "Let Freedom Ring" or "E Pluribus Unum". Or something like that.
If you haven't been paying attention our government does not believe in God our government believes they are God they are going to become the new bank the new currency and we are going to all be underneath their thumb
there are no examples of an atheist entity surviving as a state without immediately resorting to genocide. religious people are necessary to run the state
I'm not sure why that is even a question? I, am an atheist, but that does not mean to say that we should remove any references to 'god' on any documents, money etc... WTF?
The words next to a picture of the White House kinda explains why Americans see presidents as deities.
I'd prefer it being removed, but I don't consider it a big deal. I assume no one will object to putting Baphomet on a quarter?
should be another option to augment.
It's an insult to God to put that on a fiat currency.
"In God we used to trust".
Truth.
Some people are such crybabies. They say how it should be removed while also they claim it’s not religious
Yes, and It should quote AC/DC...
"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
Leave it, dont give up anymore then we already have to the cancel calture bullshit
I'm not Christian
but I think nothing wrong with that
since the majority of the us are christians
nothing bad at all to have this
Most religions have a 'God', most people believe in god though not all of them believe in them having to go through a religion to communicate with god.
The “god” in the US dollar isn’t the god you think it is.
it’s just the white house’s god (illuminati or what ever they call him)
so it’s there to stay and the dollar will sooner or later collapse anyways
Fuck no! We don't negotiate with terrorists.
it should correctly say "in money we trust". cause that's litterally the only thing that currently keeps capitalism alive.
Well to start the phrase is false as America in general doesn't trust nor love God, but I think we should keep it because I like seeing it and sounds nice.
It should remain. Let the woke go fuck themselves.
''My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves''
''Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God''
''it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God''
Judge yourself, mate.
Leave. "in people we trust" I don't really...
Sure. The phrase wasn't put on money until 1955, so it can go.
Remove it, primarily because it's a flat out lie. The government does not trust God and most of the people do not either.
Sometimes I wonder if people know what century they are living in.
Of course, it should be removed.
yeah! The Root To Evil does not deserve to have the word God written on it
Pretty sure religion is supposed to be separate from government.
Let me guess if we remove in God we trust then we will be destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah right
I don't really care based not only am I digital, but also don't give a shit about god. I say keep it. #Cultureovercancel
Just leave it alone otherwise, it is just more for culture
Remove. I have no issues with religion or religious people, but religion should have no place in a government. Government should be neutral.
Remove it. It is offensive to God to place his Name on money.
Yes and keep E Pluribus Unum too.
REMAIN. xxoo
Imaginary invisible gods have no right to exist. Anywhere but story land.
Who cares the USA is a shithole. Women there think men live for them and yet they are the least pleasant women on the planet. Hilarious.
Leave it on of course
no its historic
status quo n tradition
Last country standing
Remain
Remove. America doesn’t follow god at all.
Removed. There's no such thing as god.
@Oatmeal2 Proof!
@Oatmeal2 And you have no god!
@Oatmeal2 Tides happen because of the moon. I think everybody knows that.
Science has provided lots of answers. God has provided NONE!!
Who created god? If the big bang didn't just happen from nothing, where did god come from?
Remain
Why remove it? That makes no sense
since God doesn't exist remove it
Remove it.
Remove that shit
