Chicago is honestly fucked up by the two neighboring states being republican. They have gun shows 365 days out of the year with no regulation or identification needed just outside Illinois. just a few hours away and back from Chicago.

It's like your house is shot up by your neighbors but you can't do anything about it because it's a different state on your fence line. On top of that you trying to stop getting shot at every gun manufacturing gives coupons to your neighbor to shot at it even more and call you out for being un-American wanting gun regulations.

Illinois is the poster child of higher gun regulation propaganda from pro gun advocates part 2. but completely undermined by neighboring states that logically can't sustain a business for local consumers but requires Chicago gangster for profit. Oh, I'm seeing the bad faith loop- but it's on your part, here. Wisconsin borders 3 states; Indiana 4. None of them have gun laws anywhere NEAR as strict as Illinois', and yet Indiana and Wisconsin have quite a few gun shops far from the Illinois border. The industry does just fine, and the POPULATION does just fine, with far lower violent crime rates. There is a fraction of the local industry that takes advantage of Illinois' stricter laws, and if that market disappeared, some of those businesses would fail- but Wisconsin and Indiana people also buy guns.

It's no different from liquor stores set up on the borders of dry counties- when you can't get booze at home, you go to where you CAN get it, and the stupidity with which some of your peers drink and drive, more people die in the process.

Pretending that only criminal scum buy guns doesn't make you look good.

For that matter, the additional Federal laws cripple interstate gun commerce, and on top of THAT, you:
1. CAN'T legally buy a handgun or ammo for one as an Illinois resident in any other state,
2. can't even buy a long gun in any state that doesn't border Illinois, and
3. THE WAITING PERIOD STILL APPLIES.

"Gun shows" are a big loophole on all gun restrictions. You can buy a gun shoot someone and can't trace it back to said gun show let alone shooter.

And gun shows are camped out just short of Illinois limits.
