That may be the new mayor's problem, but I don't see how it's the problem of liberals in general. The people think that everything that happens in a city is the fault of the conservative mayor or administrator of the city in some way, but when really bad things happen and conservatives her empower, you don't bother to mention it and you certainly don't blame them for it. Guilt by proximity doesn't work.

I think that other cities which pulled the political stunt of defending had their most vulnerable residents begging for police to come back in the equivalent of a few minutes. Once the criminal element realized there were no consequences to their predations, naturally they increased.

Has that guy *ever* actually promised safety? He's more radical that lesbian Beetlejuice in every issue they weren't in lockstep over, most notably that he's deadly serious about defunding the police. Entire blocks of Chicago are completely ignored by EMS services, and every historical and current indicator shows his policies will make that situation even worse. Chicago gets what it votes for...
