It's not only ironic that it's being held in Chicago, but the fact party leaders will be hand picking a candidate who got 0 votes in the primary just like 1968. 2024 is set to be an exact repeat of 1968 except for the riots that took place at the 1968 convention.

The primary system has only been dominant in the past 50 years. Before that, convention delegates just voted (like they do now), but the people voting may not have had much, if anything, to do with it.

No. The DNC has been held in Chicago numerous times. The DNC may have been held in Chicago more than any other city. Most recently, Chicago hosted in 1996.

So, there's nothing ironic about it.

Chicago has hosted the DNC 11 times and the RNC 14 times for a total of 25 times. The next closest city to that is Baltimore which hosted 13 times all but once in the 19th Century before the end of Reconstruction.

So, there is nothing ironic and little coincidental about this.
