No, the US has a similar celebration called Labor Day, the first Monday in September. May 1 in the US is just another workday for most, unless they work for a foreign-based company.
We call them bank holidays in the uk and we get a few every year. The idea is thousands of people can flock to the coast touring massive caravans behind a tiny car just try to piss me off.
Seeing as everyone is a worker, it seems a bit too generalist.
