No, the US has a similar celebration called Labor Day, the first Monday in September. May 1 in the US is just another workday for most, unless they work for a foreign-based company.

We call them bank holidays in the uk and we get a few every year. The idea is thousands of people can flock to the coast touring massive caravans behind a tiny car just try to piss me off.

@monorprise The politicians are pandering for the hispanic vote. They did away with Columbus day because Italians don't vote for democrats.

@exitseven I'm not sure the fact that Columbus came from a republic that is now part of the nation of Italy is relevant to the world changing achievement of Columbus.

But i guess democrats are able to craft their own narrative no matter how divorced from historic facts it might be.

Their voters really don't know anything, I just read a post of one that thought Roe v. wade was a law rather than a court edict.

@monorprise Back in the day the politicians made St Patricks' day a holiday to get the Irish vote. They did the same for Columbus Day for the Italians.
