Most people know their anthem's first verse.

But do you know the SECOND VERSE? Can you sing it?

Somehow, I remember learning the second verse to the US's Star Spangled Banner in grammar school. It starts "O thus be it ever when free men shall stand..."

I'm like @exitseven. I was taught the 4th verse as the 2nd verse of the Star Spangled Banner. In grammar school, we used to sing both verses during assemblies.

That's the fourth verse you're thinking of, not the second. Here are the lyrics:

I learned 2 verses when I was a kid. I tried to think of the whole second b. verse. I could only remember the first few lines. I just found out there are 4 verses. What I was taught to be the second very is actually the 4th. I have to wonder what else did my elementary school teachers mess up on.

Our Whole anthem is just three short verses of 4 lines each with a chorus between so it's not hard to know it.

I forgot many lines, but one I should have remembered after and the rockets red glare was "the bombs bursting in air...". I once knew it all from doing the pledge of allegiance in school, and the Star Spangled Banner followed.

Yes, I know all three verses of the "Song of the Germans". Only the third is now the official anthem, so technically the German anthem has only one remaining verse.

No. I know there are four verses. The passage you cite in the update is the start of the fourth verse.
