This is a very good question
First I want to thank every man and women who has given up their freedom so we can enjoy ours
I would like for everyone to really understand what any armed forces has given up so we may have the freedoms that we have.
Especially this Memorial Day I want people to realize As Americans as a planet in the next year where we are headed all the people that have died for us to get to where we're at would be turning over in their graves knowing that they gave their lives for where we are headed in the next year or two Americans were going to have some big changes of our own freedom we are either going to be little sheep and follow or we are going to say no you're not going to do this to us but no matter what we all need to stand up together I don't care who you are if you're American I don't care what color you are I don't care what ancestry you have we need to become one our world is about to change once this currency bullshit happens we are all going to be little sheep I don't want my kids to live in that type of world the generation of today you guys are weak you guys are followers they put a carrot in front of your nose and you follow I hope and I pray to God that you do not so for all the men and women that have died protecting this country protecting us all of us I thank you so very much there's nothing we can do to repay you ever except for keeping the freedom alive in our own country and not allowing our government the people that we hire start controlling us the way that they are doing it right now and all the things that they have coming up for us
And for all you smart people out there
You all of you right Wingers and all of you left Wingers go fuck yourself you are sheep you watch your TV station to talk your bullshit politics and your dumb as rocks
You are the sheep I'm talking about you all follow your favorite TV news station you only know and believe in what they tell you.. you live the language because it makes you think your smart ITS A BIG CON. If you would stop and really listen
All party's want the same thing
They just say it in a different language
And think about this hundred and something erected offices every year in our country. And every year not one of them dare to stand up to be great not 1 of them in how many years.
That's why they are elected to do the right thing for all of us. But not 1 will stand up and even try.
They get elected then they have to follow not lead they follow the good old boy system. News Stations have you all brain washed it's because your also a follower
For all the men and women that gave up their lives for us to end up like this is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in my life I thank the men and women who each and every day go to work to protect us

Both. It offers a day to reflect on the sacrifices made by others to ensure freedom could be maintained and it gives us the day to enjoy that freedom that could have potentially been lost.
There are countless stories of valor told by survivors who knew the people who gave their lives and they should be remembered and honored.
Today I remembered the 11 Marines, 1 Navy Corpsman, and 1 soldier that died during the Afghanistan withdrawal. I thought about the guys who fought for 13 hours that fought in Benghazi. I thought about the Rangers and Delta boys that died on October 3rd, 1993. I thought about the vets from Iraq/Afghanistan, Vietnam, Korea, WWII and WWI.
Endless conflicts and stories that can be recounted and so the ones who didn't die in their place can live and continue to embody the values and beliefs they died for.
Both?
On base we celebrate. The commander comes and says a few words, sometimes another speaker, the chaplain comes says a few words and a prayer, this is about 30-40minutes. Afterwards we’re released to enjoy free food and get to wear our civies
Everyone is different though. Spend it how you like.
GOD BLESS ALL WHO HAVE SERVED 🇺🇸❣️
Today is a day to do both.
We grieve, we remember, we honor and give thanks for the freedom we have. We celebrate the life we have in honor of those for laid down their lives. We honor and show respect for survivors and the scars they carry.

For our ANZAC day it is somber. The last post at dawn is a most mournful sound. It is right to remember the sacrifice of not just those who died but those were injured in life altering ways. Many who survive are emotionally damaged for life. Combat vets on average live 10 years less.
For those of us that haven't been called upon - I think we should feel humbled by their bravery & sacrifice. This song says it to me - it doesn't just speak to Australians I believe.
Despite the remembrance, there is undoubtedly a quiet feeling of joy in our servicemen and women.
Honor to your heros!
https://www.youtube.com/embed/1gmgwx77oswWhile we eat our hotdogs, hamburgers, fried catfish or bbq, and see Memorial Day as another day off from work or the unofficial first day of summer spent on our many lakes; you have spouses, siblings, parents and close friends that are visiting and placing American flags on the gravesites of loved ones lost to one too many wars.
Those that fought and died in war, did so, so we could have the freedom to spend their Memorial Days eating, drinking, maybe watching a fireworks display, and/or spending a couple days pulling their grandchildren, great grandchildren or even their children on inflatable tubes behind boats.
Those freedoms soldiers left behind do need to be celebrated because around the world, few are free to do just that. Celebrate Freedom. So as a kid who’s dad was in the service, we remember those who fought for this country and enjoy what we have because of them. Without those sacrifices, we wouldn’t enjoy the life we have now. So going on living your life and remembering them is a good way for them to know they didn’t lose their life for nothing.
I think it should be a somber day since it is remembering those who lost their lives defending the country. July 4th is more of a celebration of the country and it’s freedoms as a whole and Veterans Day is a celebration of those who fought for us and are still with us.
in my opinion, it's not a celebration, but a day of remembrance to honor the fallen— a holiday meant to provide a pause so we could remember those who have given the most they could give in the name of freedom. It just happens to fall on the last Monday of May every year. This unofficially marks the beginning of summer, which is why so many cookouts and pool parties coincide with what should otherwise be a somber holiday.
No! These poor kids (soldiers) were sent out to get killed for what? Freedom? Are you kidding me? This is what we have been brainwashed with since we were young going to school, "they fought for our freedom" Look at our embarrasing war history and see how many were created by us to take advantage of the rest of the world (other countries) NOT for us to enjoy freedom here but for others to suffer and die because of the wars we have created throughout the years. That is why we are hated so much everywhere we go! You have an option to remain the in your "made belief" world or you can open up your eyes, do a bit of research, and find out why so many of our young soldiers have been killed all these years!
Absolutely and a celebration. We moron our fallen soldiers. And we should honor there memory by drinking having good BBQ and spending time with those who did come back from war in honor of the time they served
Freedom?
I seem to remember roe v. wade just recently being overturned, essentially banning abortion. And if republicans regain control of the white house, it'll be a national abortion ban, I GUARANTEE YOU
Kind of both, a bit more somber, as long as you remember what the day is for.
The 4th of July is more for celebrating your freedoms with alcohol and explosives.
What could go wrong? It’s not a play day for BBQ. Its to remember the fallen who maintain liberty, the sovereignty of our nation, and protecting our constitution.
It can be both.
We can be sad for the people we lost and happy for the things that we gained. That’s how I see it anyways. It’s always been a mix of fun and remembrance. I don’t think those we honor would mind us having some fun and celebration. But let’s not forget why we have the day.
It is both. The brave men and women that fought to defend this country dod it so we can all have freedoms that are not found elsewhere.
Both. Maybe one before the other. I think they’d want us to be happy and enjoy our freedoms but without forgetting about them.
somber, death is heavy. but i wish you good memorial day, today for u. s. i did it.
Clearly both. What it is NOT is a time to say "Happy Memorial Day." It is a day that is beautiful in its reverence and appreciation. Not a day for frivolous festivities.
it can be both, IMHO. excellent question, though.
It is both. Even the somber remembrance offers that up.
Both. They fought, sacrificed, and died for this country and the liberties and lives of every civilian to this day
Memorial Day is the day we remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. As such, it is easily both of those.
