Here are some of the potential reasons:

Poverty, violence, corruption, lack of education, lack of jobs, and cartels are slowly killing these countries. People would prefer to die in the process of getting to a better opportunity, knowing that they tried, rather than staying home with the guilt of not trying to give their families a better opportunity.

It’s seasy to say that they should enter the legal way, but not everyone is lucky to be born in a developed country, where the opportunities are vast. Where you get paid the money you deserve for your work, where they don't deny you a job interview based on your gender or age, and where the few oportunities are given to everyone and not only to the ones in favor of the current government.

Most countries have a difficult path to citizenship. Here in the U. S. it's (relatively) easier. In countries like Saudi Arabia, even being born there is no guarantee or citizenship if BOTH parents are Saudi citizens. If I remember correctly, citizenship is granted at age 21 unless you fuck up (criminal record) in which case you can be denied.

However, the governor from the state I live in just appropriated 324 million dollars to support all the illegal aliens (she calls then "Asylum Seekers"). There is a small town near where I live and 180 illegals were dumped there in the middle of the night. There is one hotel in town and they took over the whole thing. The local hospital is swamped and the already strained school district had to take another 60 students who could not speak a word of English. All this at taxpayer expense. They even had to get special food because they did not like American cuisine.
If I was to lose my job and fell behind on my mortgage and needed some help from the government I know that I would be met with a blank stare and a bunch of excuses.
