June 6, 1944 Allies landed in Normandy, France to turn the tide of the Axis armies and liberate Western Europe.

Yes, it's uppermost in my mind, more so than most official holidays.

Today's date signifies a turning point in history, one which could have gone either way.

It also commemorates massive loss of life by those who knew they might never see the fruits of their sacrifices.
