Disney's chief of diversity is leaving the company. Do you belive this might be a step in the right direction?

Nope. The people you have the problem with is the sales and advertisement departments. They are the ones who analyses the statistics and makes business decisions pointing towards how supporting LGBTQ etc will make them more money.

The chief of diversity probably just deals with the companys relationship with their own employees.

The one I have the biggest issue with is Bob Iger. The current boss of Disney. Been disliking him since 2011.
But to quote the article

Of course she alone is not the only one to blame, but sounds very much like she is the type of person who pushes for that bullshit stories matters initiative Disney uses as an excuse to call their old movies problematic. 20 years ago, Song of the south was the only movie Disney absolutely refused to release. Would not surprise me if many others have joined that list since then.

You are misguided. Robert Iger is not the cause, he is the symptom. Disney is very much a capitalist corporation, perhaps even the most emblematic of them all. Disney only moves for profit and perhaps is almost unique in how far they plan out their operations for decades and decades into the future. Disney would not waver for this even if the chief executive had an agenda. As an institution Disney is monolithic and only moves through common consensus and the only thing these people can agree on is profit.

The reason Disney has taken this path is because they have seen evidence that it will make them more money than any other path. This will not change if you replace the people within Disney since the profit motive will still exist and they will in turn make the exact same decisions.

I know they are captitalistic, and my reasons for having issues with Bob is not the same as I dislike their recent push for wokeness. I strongly disagree with the reaaon they did not name the movie Tangled Rapunzel in English or outher countries were its not named Rapunzel, and I strongly dislike the reason they gave for stop making 2D animated feutures after the last Winnie the Pooh movie.

I think most of their remakes are bad, including the ones made before their live action Alice in Wonderland.

People are free to think Disney's old movies are problematic, but I don't want Disney as a company to tell me it. Do it like Warner does and don't say a shit about it and stay silent when asked. Current Disney is way to vocal and shit stirring about it. Also, just because she is leaving does not mean there won't be a new Chief of diversity. I just hope whover the next will be less vocal about it.

New people might try to new ways to make money. Walt was inovative. Roy Miller was a penny pincher. Michael Eisner had the direct to DVD sequels. And Bob Iger is doing what Disney is currently doing. New people can bring something new to the table.

But if you don't think Disney might get even a little bit better, thats fine. I'm hopefull they do eventualy.

Again, what you consider problematic is not a person. It is systematic across the entire company and probably caused by a profit motive which means it will not change.

But people can make new decisions that might change things. You are free to be pessemistic and think it won't get better.

Again, people dont make decisions in Disney. You dont have personal freedom in that regards.

They can convince other people to agree with them. For something to happen, someone needs to come up with the idea for it to happen.

No they can't. You can't convince people who are just following already established conclusions.

Oh yes you can, if nobody made any ideas at all they would not have had any conclusions to follow at all.

But as I have explained, they do not follow peoples ideas, they follow conclusions. You need to provide conclusive evidence for why your idea is worth the time and ink it is printed on when it comes to Disney.

Yes of course, I know that. Point is, for them to reach a conclusion, they need an idea they can approve or not. Y You have been arguing they don't need ideas, as if they are able to magicaly end up with woke conclusions as if it took no ideas whatsoever to come to the conclusion. My point has been, if you don't have any ideas at all, they have nothing to work with. New people might be able to provide new ideas.

I am trying to make you understand that you are barking up the wrong tree here. Nothing that happened there has gone to any lengths to disprove Disney so even if you replace the people they will just continue to do the same thing. I dont know how to put this in any simpler way for you to understand this, new people will not change anything. New ideas will not change anything.

You are not going to get me to be pessimistic, things can change. If they couldn't, they wouldn't have changed for the worse in the first place.

This is not about pessimism, its about being realistic. We are not working in the dark here, Disney functions in a very simple way which means you can easily predict what their next actions are going to be if you have the same information. There is no mystery here that you can cross your fingers at and hope for the best.

@purplepoppy Disney has never been particulary problematic. Obviously I don't expect them to recapture the magic they had while Walt was still alive, but I like to hope they can achive the quality they had in the 90s.
