If I organized such a poll, around 70 percent of French society would agree. All that's left is to convince my Americans.

Geographically it's not ideal... More likely candidates would be Alberta or Skatchewan Canada. Canadians provinces have received previous invitation historically. They share a common border. The speak the same language. We have a lot of trade among one another. They have massive amounts of natural resources in the energy sector, agriculture, timber, and rare earth metal mining which need financial investment and development. America needs some of the mentioned resources and has the ability to develop them. American investment and development would bring more financial prosperity to them. Under an American model they would be taxed less and have more freedom running their own state. America needs more sources of rare earth metals for geopolitical reasons when dealing with China. America always needs more energy, and our biggest trade partner for imported oil is already Canada.
I think that'd be a bigger change than you think. Oh, the language barrier could be adjusted to, and having to put aside that "metric" nonsense once and for all probably would persuade some other countries to come join us, Liberia, Jamaica, and Myanmar at the cool kids table. With enough persuasion, most of you would probably be willing to list dates in the proper month-date-year order (or at least fall back on using non-numerical months). And we would HAVE to do something about that flag; that a nation with a history and culture as vast as France's can just say "Yeah, we're going to take the Dutch flag and turn it sideways" is an insult to your ancestors.
But if it came down to a cheese competition between you and Wisconsin, there'd be blood on the streets.
Are you serious? We have a $32 Trillion Dollar debt. Why on earth would you want your share of that?
Look at France's debt. Consequently, if France were to become American, it would be part of the most powerful nation in the world. We have the same cultural references as you do, believe me, all your societal movements have arrived too, and we're getting more import by the day, for example, gay pride and Blackfriday took ten years, and the me too movement only took a few days for arrived in France.

Oh, c'mon!! You just want the rap music!!
I hope you'll forgive me one day for liking rap 🤣 for the anecdote, the Americanization of French society or more generally of Europe began with Jazz ( one of your favorite styles of music ) and ends today with rap my style of music lol.
I must confess, and this will remain a secret between us, I'm Welsh-American.
P. S. You know I am never going to let you forget that, right?
As to the rest, I would advise against it. France is a distinct society with a distinct cultural identity. Though there are some superficial similarities to the USA, overall the differences, in time, would become more obvious and would conduce to an unhealthy political environment for both countries.
That said, if your parents want to escape the rap music, I am still prepared to offer them asylum.
You make me laugh a lot 🤣
you're probably right , but know that France is importing faster and faster social movements from America , Blackfriday and gaypride 10 years , to import the me-too movement a month , and Blacklives matters only a few days. As you can see, it's all happened simultaneously now.
Well, if I couldn't integrate the whole of France, I'd be the only one to become an American. The Americans will forgive me for the massacre of the language of Shakespeare 🤣
I'm really going to have to make you listen to some real rap, you'll love it.
Seriously, I hope you and your family are well, take care.
Well, to your substantive point, particularly as the technology becomes more sophisticated and markets become more integrated, there will be increasing integration of national habits. However, never underestimate the differences. The similarities are as apt as not to be more short term and superficial than not and - as I noted - as time and stresses intensify, societies will tend to revert to more deeply rooted cultural habits.
As to the rest - you are a delight and we'd be happy to have you on this side of the Pond! Although for my sake and because I pity your parents, feel free to leave the rap music behind. (Besides, we have enough over here - though not in my house.)
Best, as always, to you and yours'.
I would like America to expand. Not sure if France makes the most sense though. If any country would turn into another section of America it would be Canada or maybe we could start with Greenland but neither of those places seem to be interested.
Well, there is a start...

It probably would be better to join French Canada.
You can wish in one hand & shit in the other & see which one fills up quicker. On the flip side it’s probably easier for you to move to America.
Ummmm , Im not sure Socialist / Communist French would quite fit in as a USA State , but good luck with that ! 55555
hahaha , okey , leave it to you , I really dont care , but you are a left backwater , and you will never be a USA state , although it certainly would help your country.
Again , Im surrounded by French , I like them.. but economically ! the system can't and won't ever work.
Good night and good luck , enjoy all the best.
If our economic system were so bad, France wouldn't be the world's 7th largest economy, with one of the highest business start-up rates in the world. Honestly, the extreme left isn't known for its love of business and capitalism. And we have a president who is a former banker working for one of the world's biggest banks.

Not to be trusted those Frenchies..
They'll probably chop off your heads!
Well we may have done a bit of pruning here and there but you went nuts and start chopping off heads all over the place.
Oh that guy is vaguely posh, he's an elite, chop his head off!
What about that guy?
He's carrying a baguette at a fancy angle..
How can you be sure that someone isn't a blue blood unless you look inside them?
I guess we can't rule that out, certain elements of our society do like to meddle in other peoples business.
Why not just have France merge with Quebec and call yourself Canadian. There's not much difference between Canadians and Americans.
@julie4 France already has Pierre et Miquelon just off the Canada coast... it would be so easy to just go a bit farther west to Quebec. 😉
no cause then it starts with france having small food portions then next thing you know, all states are serving ant sized food (joking)
No, I think the 50 we already have is enough. The only way I would do it is if we could get rid of California first.
@exitseven Lately, there are many Californians who would agree with you. 😎
@AviatorTom I bet.
But, that means the French Foreign Legion won't be foreign, anymore.
No and no. Hold on to your culture.
No
America took Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the virgin Islands. Why would they take France which don't need to be a US state nevermind a monarchy. That's not happening ever 😄
I'd love to have you join Les Etats Unis, but what about language?
No! Absolutely not! Why do you wanna ruin such a great country? If anything, I suggest the opposite! Or at least bring back New France
Are you sure you're French?😂
Yes, sure come on over welcome aboard 😊. 🇺🇸
I would prefer America become more Europeanized then to see France because more Americanized.
I love the fact that cultures all over the world are different.
Oh my god no. Do you seriously want to ruin France?
Sure, if some of France's acceptance and tolerance comes with it.
They need to give up on their I'll advised liberal policies first.
No, but I can see several Western Canadian Provinces eventually becoming states.
Eh, I dunno. We've already got our hands full with Mexico. I don't think France would be a good fit. The French don't like to work very hard.
Lol, no thanks.
I would highly advise against it.
