It would need another state to offset it. The US has a history of keeping things in balance politically when admitting new states. The last two states were admitted within a couple of years of each other.
Alaska - solid Republican Hawaii - solid Democrat
This has always been a consideration when admitting states, although not necessarily by party.
France would probably be a Democrat state, so another state of similar population would need to be added at the same time. Otherwise it would never get the votes to be admitted. France would also be a rich state, which would ideally be balanced by another rich state, so one state does not drain the other financially.
Personally I would be against it even if the balance was kept. The biggest problem with the US is over population. It's too damn crowded. I'd prefer cutting the population in half, not increasing it 50 million (Or whatever the population of France is these days).
Besides, with the Louisiana Purchase, we already got a whole bunch of French states. (Which is why there are still a lot of French speakers in Louisiana.)

As for Hitler, the only difference between him and Communists was that he saw the national rather than international, as the setting for his National Socialism. So he was a leftist totalitarian, whose ideology had a lot in common with today’s Democrats in the US.
Having been a peacekeeper in the former Yugoslavia, I’m quite familiar with Milosevic, who was a Communist and therefore a leftist. The figure most similar to Milosevic was Tobert Mugabe, a leftist totalitarian that black supremacist like you no doubt supported.
Pinochet was military dictator, but not a totalitarian, and even he kept Chile’s huge copper industry in state hands. And let’s keep in mind that not only did he give up power after losing an election, he and the other military leaders stepped in to take power only after leftist Salvador Allende ordered the government seizure of privately owned vehicles.
And LOL, Sukarno? He had closer relations with the Soviet Union and was anti-Western. That makes him a leftist.
As for Diem, he was anti-Communist in the sense of bringing opposed to the Communist regime in North Vietnam, but his governing style certainly wasn’t right wing, what with religious persecution and state control of the economy, two things consistently associated with l totalitarians.
Suharto was not a totalitarian. If you apply Western political spectrum, it’s not even that clear he was a right wing as you claim, let alone within the Asian political spectrum. And he came to power due to an attempted Communist coup.
So, as usual, you make claims that are generally not supported by the facts. And you couldn’t even talk about policies because that’s too complex for you.

Both of you guys are going off topic and missing the point. The question was about France becoming a state. I was simply making a point that the balance counts for a lot. It's not always political balance in the sense of left-right or Republican-Democrat. Although both of those are big factors.
Hypothetically, if France became a state, how would that affect the balance? Look at the politics involved with Puerto Rico or DC becoming a state. It's pretty divisive on multiple levels. Why? Because it upsets the balance. France would have WAY more affect on the balance than Puerto Rico or DC. It would make California a distant second in terms of impact on the country. It would shift the balance pretty drastically.

Those folk are still robbing Africa (though Mugabe, who'd be 101 were he with us, passed on about seven years ago while still in power), and while the average African citizen is NINETEEN, the average African leader is EIGHTY.

I think it is a very nice offer on your part. The US made the Lousianna purchase so I can't see why they would quibble at metropolitan France. New Caledonia has good nickel reserves and China is trying to dominate that market.
While we could learn a lot from the French, why would either country want to merge with the other 4,000 miles away on the other side of an ocean? Also, I don't think the French are stupid enough to but into this idea.
Why? Iam just curious on why you would want France a state? Just because to do it just to do it you probably are not going to have a bunch of people agree with that for me there has got to be reasons in order for me to just accept that
I would support it only if Americans adopted French culture or if it could at the very least stay itself. I don't want French people to succumb to the poisons of American society.

A permanent US presence on the Eurasian continent, and US a permanent Indo-Pacific nation, which it is not currently (when you consider the geostrategic importance of the region, it is worth its weight in gold). In addition, the US would also take control of France's EEZ, which is the second largest in the world behind the US, making the US the undisputed number one. When you consider the wealth that lies within EEZs, this is significant.
They would have to conduct all official business in English and I do not see that happening. That is the major problem with Puerto Rico becoming a state.

Yeah, but since France introduced universal suffrage, it has never elected a far-right president who blames immigrants, etc. The US has done so twice in just a few years. Your societal discussions aimed at ending racism have therefore been a complete failure.
If america annexed france into being an American territory, france would adopt American ideals as part of a cultural assimilation. They would make france worse and you know it
