If it's a friend or someone I enjoy talking to? Of course? But anyone else, not usually. At my job, we have a policy: if someone smiles at you, smile back at them out of courtesy. Same with saying hello.

Otherwise, I usually don't smile at someone I don't know that well or without a good reason.
