yes and no. anyone, and especially in close relationships, we will be challenged to deep levels of "who we are". To overcome the challenges, we have to examine ourselves change, become wiser, and stronger... emotionally. Communication, beliefs, thoughts, behaviors, understanding, patience, love... we are deeply exercised.
So many people give up in the face of challenges these days. In the olden days... you courted... got married... that was it. These days, with seemingly access to thousands of options and fragile selfishness as well poor parenting and development, people are fragile.
Sometimes there is no choice in a matter... life happens and we are challenged in ways we never imagined.
I think it' definitely provides an excellent ego boost for a guy who has an attractive girlfriend.
