What do you think about the sheer number of people who participated in some way with these kind of crimes? If something similar happened today surely a lot of people you think are normal would also participate. And if not because they’re true believers, just because they don’t want to stick out or endanger themselves.

Well, something similar DID happen today; it just stopped a couple of steps short: the Covid crisis. We had an engineered panic, a government (several, actually, all over the First and Second worlds) seizing power in violation of their own laws and constitutions, we had a constant barrage of propaganda spreading terror and demonizing noncomformists, we had innumerable minor incidents of hate and violence against those who didn't go along (I had a rock the size of a softball whipped at the back of my head; I dodged it, but I'm under no delusion what would've happened if it had hit and knocked me down), and that was BEFORE the Trumpcines and associated insanities; "take our untested drug or we'll kick you out of society". Hell, Australia even built detention centers for people who refused to take it (they claim otherwise, but given what they DO admit to doing, it's a minor exaggeration at worst).

Time passed, enough people caught it and recovered that herd immunity was achieved, and so we didn't have mass incarcerations or die-offs, but the holocaust didn't happen overnight, either- and had it proven more resilient, we very well MIGHT have.

So if it happened again, would a lot of people participate? Yes. Would intelligence make you immune to it? No. Resistant, perhaps, but certainly not immune. NOBODY is immune to propaganda.
