This is mainly the traditional diversity that existed in the region. The same existed for example in Germany with Frisians, Bavarians, Kashubians and Sorbic people for example, all with their own traditions. It is similar in the countries you named, except Cuba which has seen immigration from different continents.

In recent decades, Germany has seen lots of immigration from Western Asia and Africa, but Nigeria does not have anything to match that.

So those modern racists count mainly cross-continental diversity, not local and regional traditional diversity.

I should know as I struggled with racism in my youth.
