5.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. You know your government can't censor its critics, right? They're probably even avoiding legislating the issue of whether Trump incited the riot in his speech on Jan 6 on first amendment grounds. (I'd say it's an exception: he knew they were armed, he called them to DC, he sent them to the Capitol, and he lied about what was happening there "we won", "fight like hell or you're not going to have a country any more"; sounds like "speech that incites imminent lawless action" to me.)
Yes, it's bad when the government does it, but corporations should be free to refuse to host defamation, lies, and misinformation if they want to. In fact they should be encouraged to. (Republicans are trying to ensure that as much as possible of both are published.)
If you had a digital-age justice system: "you called him this online, what's your proof?", "I heard it online", "2 days in jail, $20 fine if you say who from", it wouldn't be a problem, but when it takes years and $$$$ for defamation cases to come to trial, it's a recipe for disaster. I'd be satisfied with requiring social media sites inform everyone who saw misinformation (they know who), and not continue until it's acknowledged.
By the way, the British government censored everything in WWII. Still free. (German government, too, but we're free despite that!)

Oh, here's the whole hearing, it's long, but at about 25 minutes in, someone points out that RFK Jr. gets 10 minutes instead of the usual 5 minutes allowed for witnesses, and Jordan says equity is censorship.

Jeez, he's talking about how he's censored and how people need to be talking to each other with the biggest megaphone in the world; the US Congress. Wait: "I was censored by the Trump administration"?
"I've never been anti-vaccine"? His own family told him he was totally wrong about vaccines, before the pandemic! - +1 y
I'm trying to watch the hearing, but the stupidity is making my head hurt. Jordan thinks there's some significance in ASAP (As Soon As Possible) being in caps, but that's how you're meant to write it!
RFK Jr. thinks the peaceful death of an 86 year old man in his sleep must be related to his having the vaccine weeks earlier and not, you know, what happens to 86 year old men daily. His claim of “a wave of suspicious deaths among elderly closely following administration of #COVID #vaccines.” is pure bullshit, which is why Twitter was being asked to flag it as misinformation.

It doesn't say "except for shouting fire in a crowded theater... or hurting someone's feelings."
Every public official swears an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. So those who attempt to circumvent it are criminals.
You can pass laws against things like slander, inciting violence, threatening physical harm, but not against sharing information, thoughts or opinions.
Postal services and telecommunications were free from censorship. Internet giants are now the primary means of communication and should be treated like telecommunications companies. They have no business deciding which information is legitimate. Blocking and censoring information should be illegal. FUCK their right to do what they want with their private business. If they don't like it, get in another business.00 Reply

+1 yi think the fact that this loon is getting so much attention as a presidential candidate is evidence of a broken system. it won't go anywhere but i remember a time when our elections used to be serious stuff. now any dim wit with money who can plug into people's insecurities can make a a name for themselves. absurd

who's the boot licker. it's such a shame that people are so into their ideology they can't see facts.
8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Meaningless nonsense. Censorship is a normal part of government throughout history. Saying that it leads to totalitarianism is like saying history has been nothing but totalitarianism since the beginning of society. Even if there might be a grain of truth in what he says, it is destroyed by the egregious oversimplification he just made to the point where he is saying nothing at all.
Its also worth pointing out that just like how censorship can lead governments down totalitarianism as he claims, so too can "freedom of speech" lead society down totalitarianism such as what happened in Germany after WW1. Either way the argument is retarded. It is something that a politician says that sounds good in the moment while all the average people watches on and nods as if they understood anything.10 Reply8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. He's completely right. And the leftists currently overjoyed about others being censored may one day wonder why they are being censored as well.
Censorship is one of the biggest hallmarks of a totalitarian regime.

Yep, and never in history has the good guys been on the side of censorship as far as I am concerned. I listen to these people that wanted to censor him be interviewed and their excuses were so snide and ignorant.
"We don't want that bigotry here."
"He's not being censored, he just can't speak right in that building." - +1 y
The brand of leftist who is overjoyed about censorship has deep-seated motivation to use politics as a way to feel he is power, and in many cases to demonstrate loyalty to power. If dissident conservatives cast the elite out of power tomorrow and set up a conservative government, most of these midwits would change their tune on a dime and support the new elite.

+1 yGenerally speaking I’d have to agree, although I must admit I don’t believe in free speech to the extent we have it.
Should it be legal to say a man can become a woman? No. What about saying there are 234000 genders. No. What about saying that transgenderism is normal and anyone who doesn’t approve is full of hate and a transophobe? Nope.
These things should not be allowed to be widely promoted via free speech. They should be censored and silenced.
I have no problem with limited censorship where curbing Woke culture is involved. Saying these things is a harm to everyone.00 Reply 27.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I watched a little bit of his hearing yesterday. It was a disgrace. He is being portrayed ad a nutcase because the democrats are afraid of him. He is polling on top in the New Hampshire primary already
35 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Whatever one thinks about RFK in general, he is right about censorship. Once the government goes down the path of curating political speech, authoritarianism is inevitable.

+1 yI agree. I have no issue with conceding that a privately controlled site, like GAG for instance, can limit my speech. I do however have serious problems with such sites being pressured or coerced to do so by government entities.
03 Reply- +1 y
@goaded I guess it would depend upon whether they simply report it or use a veiled threat to do so. I get they want to monitor sites to make sure terrorists and wannabes are not using them to recruit or the such. My concern is more about pressuring people to censor those who might criticize Biden or Trump or Obama or W or their representatives or senators or other political leaders.
+1 yI don't know what to think, he's only got 16 % in the polls.

@goaded "Kennedy was initially given 10 minutes to make his opening remarks even though witnesses usually get only five minutes, prompting the top Democrat on the panel, Delegate Stacey Plaskett of the U. S. Virgin Islands, to demand the extra time be removed from the clock.
“If you want to cut him off and censor him some more, you’re welcome to,” Jordan replied."
