Politicians rarely care about specific issues. They care about building a large enough coalition in order to win and thus control others. Republicans (not all) want to ban abortion while Democrats (not all) want you to eat bugs and live like Medieval peasants. Notice, though, that the rules never seem to apply to those pushing them. Republicans like Herschel Walker campaigned against abortion while having no problem pushing past lovers to get them. On the other side, some of the Democrats complain about our carbon footprint while kicking out more than any 100 of us by flying in their private jets and driving everywhere in their under 10 mpg armored limos or Hummers while living in air conditioned 12,000 sq ft mansions.
