Why are republicans hell bent on demonizing the free press?

Because it would a whole lot easier to push their disinformation if they could control the press. The party has devolved into fascism.

@Taffy1234 For example, they keep reporting that Trump lost the 2020 election, or that Trump took highly classified documents to Mar-a-Lago when he left office, or that Trump tried to convince Georgia election officials to change the result there, or that the majority of voters are not in favor of restricting abortion, or historical truths about the treatment of blacks and indigenous people and a huge number of other sad chapters in US history they would prefer not to talk about.
