Why is it illegal to have 2 wives?

I just found out it’s illegal to have 2 wives now I’m sad.
Via Google search “The practice of polygamy is contrary to the notion of gender equality that is fundamental to Canadian society.” How does it have anything to do with gender equality? Why can’t someone do what they want , it’s not hurting anyone else?

I mean I have nothing against polyamory when everyone's consenting, etc, but the law and ideology probably has more to do with the practice of having several wives/trading women as assets that has appeared in several cultures around the world. The marriage itself isn't necessarily going against gender equality, but cultures that have such practices are sometimes extremely sexist (at least from my perspective, though I'm white and grew up in the west so I don't know much about those cultures). The cultural practice is often tied with disrespect for women, lack of female autonomy, and high levels of female objectification. Basically, while some women from these cultures are fine with it, the social pressures surrounding the situation sometimes make the woman's consent in the marriage highly ambiguous. Thus, many countries, especially ones with christian roots, have outlawed the practice.

It's bigamy to be legally married to more than one person. It's illegal to have more than one wife in a religious marraige but then the law contradicts itself because its perfectly legal to have a mistress or a 2nd or 3rd family and support them financially, legal to cheat on your wife, legal for your mistress to live in your home with your kids and kids by her. Perfectly legal to have threesomes so as long as you don't claim to be in a religious non-govermental sanctioned marraige and when asked just claim to be f*cking the government shouldn't be able to do anything although the law is subjective, if the legal authorities don't like your lifestyle they will crucify you even if there is no legality to do so.

Before the White Pilgrim CHRISTIAN invaders came to the Americas, most of the Native American Tribes were POLY and the Native women had more sexual autonomy than your modern feminist.

This is actually one of the reasons the Europeans "demonized" the Natives so much. We are NOT monogamous creatures, hence the divorce and infidelity rates being off the charts in every single nation. America doesn't even have the highest divorce rate either by the way.

Over a 40 year period, 67% of FIRST marriages will terminate, with most not reaching the 8 year mark (and it's higher if you're remarried, so best to stick it out with the first). Most people have never been taught their innate, biological imperatives, so they keep jumping from one person to the next, thinking they've not "found the ONE".

Because they are too expensive and if you had a loan on a house it would add risk the lender didn’t count on.

Women argue a lot and that increases domestic violence.

Suicide is illegal too in many places. This is like relationship suicide.

The Sister Wives have all had it and divorced clogging up the legal system. If they can’t make it work, neither can you :D

Monogamy was established to reduce male intrasexual competition and also reduce female hypergamy, before monogamy was established, men with more money monopolized the most beautiful and young women, leaving the rest of the men competing for ugly and old women.
