I have the impression that many people in the West know very little about this nation and its history. And that there is even sometimes a certain contempt.
But for me, without hesitation, Iran is truly one of the greatest civilizations in history.

Iran is definitely up there but the number spot belongs to China
their civilization lasted until near the end of WWI and only a few decades later did the communist party establish an empire just as powerful comparatively to their peers as their predecessors
China is undoubtedly one of the greatest civilizations in history, and the history of China continues, along with its civilizations. But I wouldn't say it's the first.

the Chinese were the first to end the Mongol Empire after having been completed invaded by them many years prior. I can't think of any other civilization that has done the same. Every other nation has been defeated by other nations, never from within after supposedly been completely taken over
It must also be recognized that the Mongol Empire was already weakened by internal conflicts, and that Chinese rebels took advantage of the situation to free themselves from the Mongol yoke.
And, for example, the Mongol Empire was unable to invade Western Europe.
But yes, among the invaded nations, China was incredibly strong enough to regain power.
India also has a very rich and complex history that has influenced China , Iraq , the cradle of Mesopotamia , is not lacking in myths , philosophy etc.
All in all, I'd say it's hard to pinpoint a single civilization as number one.
@NamerOfStars Greece and Rome fell apart and were taken over. the Chinese still maintained their culture from thousands of years ago even in times when they were nearly stomped out of existence by the Mongols.
modern Chinese can still read and understand the texts and scriptures of the ancient Chinese
The Chinese culture of 1500 AD differed wildly from that of a few centuries before, let alone from before the Mongol conquests; literary consistency doesn't mean much. Hell, for that matter, even MODERN Italians can read old Latin texts, too. An alphabet not changing doesn't mean a culture doesn't.
But that's not what I meant. What I meant was that the Greeks, having been conquered by Rome, went on to conquer it from within, and then outlast it; the Byzantines beat the Romans by a thousand years. Similarly, the English outlasted the Normans, the Irish outlasted them (in an empire sense, anyway), and the Mongol empire collapsed without the efforts of the Chinese. Crediting it to them is like crediting the fall of the French empire to the Haitians.
@NamerOfStars the difference between those and China is that China shouldn't have recovered but they did. they were completely taken over such that a new dynasty (The Yuan Dynasty) was established
also Chinese imperial dynasties continued to last until the end of WW1 and it was a phasing out of the last emperor rather than complete replacement. the power went to the people rather than the reigning government which allowed for new governments the nationalists and communists to fight to control the populace
this is by no means saying Greece and Rome weren't impressive in their own right but in terms of duration, achievements, population size, living remnants in my opinion China has the edge over them
Persia is. If I'm completely honest, I think Iranians are even more progressive then Turks. It's just the government that's so stupid.
I wrote a MyTake about Iran on my old account. Conservative Americans hate that place because the government and military kills rapists (I mean, American soldiers) and jails our journalists. So fucking what? That doesn't negate the people or the incredible history and nature that they have. Iran is one of the most interesting countries in the world for sure.
@WhiteBoyChill The rest of the world, would beg to differ. Okinawa has been trying to get rid of them for years because they keep raping their women. And Ukrainians said the first time Putin invaded Crimea that they don't want US intervention because they don't want their women to be raped by "cruel stupid American marines". Though "assholes" or just "war crimals" could also be used to describe them. Lol "infantrymen"😂 I guess a lot of them DO act like infants. But the funny thing is, literally almost everyone I've talked to, except White Conservative Americans, hate American soldiers. So maybe THEY are in fact the problem.

It was either Snowden or Assange who leaked a bunch of videos of your beloved soldiers raping Iraqi and Afghan women. Not to mention the thousands of eye witness accounts, dating as back to WWII even, but apparently that's not good enough evidence for you. I had a buddy in the military he said half the training was "Don't rape." He said his female friend was sexually harassed on multiple occasions. You know who taught Richard Ramirez to kill and rape. Currently I am most fascinated by the rise of agriculture in the fertile crescent and the ancient mesopotamia cities. The migration of these early farmers is my particular interest and the DNA breadcrumbs that have been left. The Persians are definitely on the radar as part of this.
They didn't teach us anything about ancient Iran in high school, or really ancient anything besides Rome and Egypt. You had to go to college to learn about that stuff when I was young. Anybody my age or older who didn't take world history in college probably doesn't know doodly squat about it.
Haha is well historically they were called Iranians, Persia was rather a region of the empire, the founder of Iran come from the Persian region and medes. It was the Greeks who called them Persia.
Yes, she deserves respect. I don't like her current regime. But the history of Iran cannot be summed up in its current state. It must have been a wonderful Persepolis assignment
