What do you think is the greatest civilization in ancient history?

There were some pretty cool ones. But I'll pick the Persian Empire.
Advancements in and contributions to art, architecture, art, music, mathematics, trade.
The first ever bill of rights. Religious equality and freedom. The first form of paper money. They had a fixed legal system and a constitution of a nation.
The silk road stretched all the way from Libya, through Egypt, Mesopotamia and India to China. Trade and contact with other people contributed to the Persian Empire's wealth and sophistication at a time when Europe was still populated by warring tribes.
One of the main reasons that the Persian Empire was so successful was because of their tolerance of non-Persian citizens living in Persia. Persia conquered many different places, so it had a variety of different people living across the Persian Empire. Some of these people were Mesopotamians and Egyptians, along with many other ethnic groups. The Persian government didn’t force their will upon the conquered people, instead they let the conquered people continue their way of life just like before.
I know just sperging it out is a meme at this point, but really, Rome. Advancements in military tactics, science, architecture, law, arts, Rome was pretty cool. Some of their roads and aqueducts are still used today. Their legal system is still studied and current legal systems of a slew of nations have been shaped by theirs. The though of building massive arenas and filling them with exotic animals from another continent is really cool today, I can only imagine what it must have been like to be a regular person watching that back in the day. Very few other civilizations, even today, come close to theirs.
greek too why not greek?

I have to go Roman. It is only in the later part of the 19th century that we exceeded what they could do.
I was very impressed by a museum in Torino. You start of at pre-history. There are some nice stone axes. You walk around and around going forward in time. You get to the Roman period and everything is beautiful - all quality. When you pass that it is all shit - worse than pre Roman, crude wooden bowls. Keep on walking forward in time and it is only in the 1700's that some good stuff comes back but not with the style of before.
Total crap that historians are insisting the dark ages didn't exist and calling it early middle ages instead so as not to be insulting. The dark ages did exist
I would say Romans, mainly for introducing or at least running a major economic system. The demands that had led to many inventions and customs that make the modern world.
Asia had a huge monopoly on scientific and mathematic developments, especially the Muslim world. Ironic looking at the mid east now.
Those that had the biggest impact on modern life are Roman and Greek. Yes the likes of China had an empire but what impact has it had? The Greek win due to the influence they had on the romans etc. think of how much lasted from the Greeks to present day.
Probably ancient Egypt before the Bronze age collapse. They built the largest constructions in history up until the modern age so they must have been an ultra prosperous nation. Certainly north Africa and the Middle east was a very green place compared to now.
if you mean pyramids, many other places have big pyramids too.
@strateguy632 the Great Pyramid of Giza was the tallest building in history for 3800 years.
Mongols were the largest, but were not organized.
The two best are the Roman republic and The US republic.
Honorable mention to the Ottomans. They might still be with us if they had kept up with weapons technology.
opposite, British on horses defeated ottoman. the tanks were used in france.
great in what? size? by cruelty. ancient civilization was far from "civilized".
the greatest civilization was opposition to human sacrifice in time of moses by moses 1500 b. c.
Rome and Greece based on accomplishments and inventions that are still used today or a variation of them for ancient. For modern it is definitely the USA.
I would say ancient Egypt during the Bronze Age.. It had so much going for it.. Architecture wise and even other groundbreaking achievements.. That was the height of Egyptian power..
Rome or Greece. The argument can be made for either, to me.
I always liked to pick the ChuKoNu... at AoE
Ghengis Khan's Mongols. Maybe the Huns under Attila
China had a civilization while the European were still swinging in the trees.
the opposite, china writing started later.
@strateguy632 Indigenous people of Australia take the cake about 50,000 years ago
