Why are people so stupid?

I just heard this story about public buildings in the UK being built with cheap concrete that only lasts 30 years and nobody came up with the idea to compile the data of where this stuff was being used and when it was first put in place so it could be tracked and replaced. No they're telling people to go look through buildings by eye and to see if there's any concrete that is different from the other concrete. Using sub standard building materials is already dumb af but not even keeping track of it is astounding.

What if they miss one and a building just collapses on some school kids or hospital patients?

It never stops amazing me how greed turns people into such idiots.

Reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete only has life expectancy of 30 years, the buildings were only ever designed to last that long. But governments didn't want to build new ones, they just painted over the cracks.

So they were being cheap bastards but they couldn't imagine that the future government would also be cheap bastards?

I think the attitude was it'll be someone elses problem then. There is a hospital not far from me that's closing and moving to a new location. People are trying to save it but I've personally spoke to builders who say it was only built to last 30 years max. I guarantee its the same with the schools.

It's sad. Humanity has so much potential when we actually work together but in so many places it's not the case. I believe in what can be achieved because in Switzerland the system actually works and people buy into it and take responsibility. But it's sad to see humanity as a whole continue to flounder and fall into the same loops of self harm.

Capitalism incentivizes cutting corners like this. Whoever managed the project for these public buildings probably got a pat on the back and a massive bonus for delivering constructed buildings and saving money on the given budget then 30 years later it gets blamed on whichever sitting government
