Trump Bakes A Loaf Of Nonsense With Bizarre Remark About Grocery Store Purchases
Former President Donald Trump on Friday suggested that people need identification to purchase groceries, repeating a wild claim he’s pushed in the past.
“You have voter ID to buy a loaf of bread. You have ID to buy a loaf of bread,” he said at a summit of the Concerned Women for America, a conservative group, in Washington, D. C.
Trump has made similar assertions over the years. During a 2018 rally, he stated that “you need a picture on a card, you need ID,” to buy groceries. Months later, he suggested that there’s an ID requirement for cereal purchases.
In 2019, the former president received pushback for another supermarket-related claim when he said grocery stores would “work along” with federal employees amid a government shutdown.
“Local people know who they are when they go for groceries,” he said at the time. “That’s what happens in times like this — they know the people, they’ve been dealing with them for years, and they work along.”
