Truth is that Israel probably organised the attacks. The Israelis I believe fear the politics of the Palestinians more than the guns. Gerry Adams used to say that of the Unionists in Northern Ireland who along with factions of the British authorities would have preferred the troubles continued indefinitely. We've had nearly 30 years of peace, most of the military installations have been dismantled, all the state paramilitary organisations were disbanded, the police has been demilitarised and are more representative of the population and police both communities and Sinn Fein are now in power as the biggest party.
What the Palestinians should actually do is to get rid completely of their weapons and concentrate on building up their country because they are never ever going to be able to challenge the Israelis militarily and the Israelis would prefer them to fight. Between all the neighbouring Arab Muslim countries there is plenty of money that could be used to build up Palestine's infrastructure rather than their arsenal. The latest attack on Israel is exactly what the under fire Israeli government wanted, now prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his ultra nationalist right-wing party gets to stay in power and push their policy of Israeli settlements on Palestinian lands.

The land was theirs way before anyone else, better known as The Promised Land, and given to them by God, who owns all Earth. All these other people are seen as invaders.

It was not theirs. The Palestinians had been living there for many years. God has nothing to do with this.

As I said, it was promised to them thousands of years ago when they left Egypt for it. The wandered 40 years in the desert for it and actually entered it and claimed the gift after all the prior generation had passed. They got scattered over the many years since. But they came back to claim the land, as was foretold by Bible prophesy, in 1947 after no other nation wanted them. As I told someone else, if you own property but don't live on it for a period of time, that doesn't give squatters the right to move onto it and claim it as their own.

I suppose it's significant that that was recorded in the Bible but it isn't 2,000 years ago now and this is the modern world. In the modern world following world war II, that land was given to the Israelis in 1949 which is somewhat more contemporary. I find it as shame that the Israelis actually took the land as opposed to settling someplace else and then proceeded to oppress the Palestinians which they have done routinely ever since. But that's the way things shook out. Israel has turned into a nation that employs actions that can be only be deemed war crimes in order to hang on to that land and that is unreasonable and wrong.

There are American hostages/unaccounted or in the area. That justifies a carrier battle group in place for the massive logistical power that comes with it. If they're rescued and need medical help, the only place they're going to get that caliber of care is aboard an aircraft carrier.

I spent a bunch of time overseas for the USG and was never one to want to take on the role of global cop, because F that noise, not my problem, but I'd put the uniform back on in a heartbeat to go on a rescue/recovery for U. S. personnel anywhere in the world and not think twice about it.

Us being there isn't the problem. How long we stay may be.

I think that if we just rescue hostages, that would be a very good thing. I am worried it might be more than that. There are 4 missile destroyers in that carrier group.

no but the one with the printing press and reserve currency holds the system where it is at... which is artificial. without that, the map would be different.

but it's "bad" as we back off, as we have no choice. whether it's now or later, we can't pay to keep artifical walls up forever, no country has ever succeeded. so people will suffer and die for it. not that they weren't before, but there will be more of it as powers clash.

I think America had a duty to require decent treatment of the Palastinians as a prerequiste for aid to Israel. If there was a thriving economy on the Gaza Strip and nobody killing their children or building towns on their land, why would they attack Israel?

Correct. Also, the military industrial complex is one of the few industries that still gives almost as much to Republicans as it does to Democrats, so this is largely bipartisan. At the moment, the anti-war left is long dead and the only group discouraging overseas adventurism is the populist conservative faction, which is despised by the elite.

No, we absolutely do NOT. The problem with the Israel conflict is that the US was directly involved long before. We played a direct role in facilitating this most recent attack on Israel by sending the money and resources to Iran. Iran has directly and adamantly stated their support of Hamas and called for death to Israel.

The US is currently financing both sides of that conflict. ☹️
