What “should” be Israel’s response to these attacks?

No one is saying Israel ain’t allowed to defend itself…and in some respects seek vengeance. Or “justice”. But like always, we’re seeing mostly innocent bystanders killed- which is what terrorists want fyi…

From what I can find, a Thai family was bombed by Israel. Several family members of “terrorists”. Not exactly Justice there.

Moderate response, surgical tactical, find those responsible for attacks

Explosive, bomb the sites of the rocket launches and place everyone living around there in a concentration camp

According to the US manuals on these things, simple retaliation is literally the worst choice. That said, because this is a politically sensitive topic you also need some sort of response. As such, the best response would probably be to try turn Palestinians against Hamas and cooperate in their destruction.

This event is terrible enough that with some persuasion you could motivate average people to side with you that Hamas went too far. However, if you respond in kind (which Israel has already done to some degree) then Hamas would have successfully dragged you down to their level and just continued the cycle of violence which would wrap around to reinforcing Hamas so that they can continue this.

What people like you are failing to realize is that they are not fighting a conventional war. Hamas attacked Israel not because they thought they could win, they are not stupid, but because they NEEDED Israel to strike back. The more Israel strikes back against Palestine the more support and resources will flow into Hamas and make them stronger.

What you are proposing is literally giving Hamas what they want and to make them stronger. Good job playing into their hands. Dont believe me? Its literally in the US manual. I think its called FM 3-24 or something and you can read it online.

They are doing what the US would do. It´s easy to say find the Hamas and kill them but that´s way harder to do than to say. For me the problem is that I would prefer moderate attacks but since it´s war what´s moderate in a war especially as there are still attacks from the Palestinian side on Israel. It´s not a one sided military operation.

No we actually nearly had ALL al quada surrounded by special ops guys in Afghanistan until Bush W got a hard on and invaded with the army. Then the bad guys scattered ad we dealt with counterinsurgents.

Israel could treat it like a murder case ane investigate. Then ferret out the guilty. Instead of bombing 400+ Palestinians. Which technically is a war crime.

Israel needed a pretext for military action. They fear Palestinian politics more than Palestinian rockets. Now after years of international pressure and internal strife over the treatment of Palestinians they have the justification they need to silence it. The Israelis knew what HAMAS was planning, they just let it happen.

The US was conducting surgical arrests in the war on terror but all they were doing was locking up innocent people in guatanamo, they switched to "surgical strikes" to assassinate suspects with minimum collateral damage and we incidents of 50 people being killed at a wedding.
What we need to do is to stop trying to police the world. In the war on terror all we did is pour gasoline on the fire.

I don’t know the timeline of Gitmo. I just read that special forces and surgical ops completely decimated Al Quaeda and cornered Bin Laden in the mountains of Tora Bora. But then Bush W ordered the invasion of Iraq.

Afghanistan turned out to be too small a conflict. You don't think its strange that he turned up over a decade later I Pakistan? The us military is huge they could have gotten Osama and invaded Iraq no problem. In fact the us military was operating in over 5 different theatres at the height of the war on terror maybe more.

The military is huge but the majority of that is military personnel and infrastructure meant to project force abroad. There are very few personnel that are ever going to be in contact with an enemy.

Also in Vietnam the US military kicked ass, by the time we pulled out the Vietcong basically didn't exist. The politicians went in with no clear strategy or idea of the objectives supporting an ally that was completely corrupt.

As I stated elsewhere Israel lost when Hamas crossed the border and massacred hundreds of civilians. Now they have few choices and all of them are bad. They have to respond militarily, and at some point they will have to put boots on the ground in Gaza, which is going to be a bloodbath.

But if our special forces could infiltrate Afghanistan and completely disrupt Al quaeda and nearly kill Bin Laden, then Mossad could easily do that with Hama. But like Bush W, that isn’t what they want. They want Gaza and the forced deportation of palesimians out of their way.

Plus, Israel elected a far right leader. If they don't want the disasters that commonly occur under far right leaders then they have to stop electing far right leaders. The people of Israel and the Israeli hostages are experiencing the consequences of electing a far right leader who would campaigned on "jokes" about annihilating Palestine. When it turned out to be neither a joke nor funny, Palestine reacted as people always do when they are pushed to the brink: reasonable people start to see reason in extremism. This is what the Israeli people voted for. It is their business. It is their problem. But with US citizens also being killed or taken, it becomes the USs problem, at least that part of it.
