What’s your opinion on the mass shooting that just happened today in Maine?

the guy may be from Hamas? don't put b. s. out there.
he's an American military guy who was committed to a mental institution just a few months ago.
i think it's awful. what else are we to think? innocent people losing their lives while we do little to nothing to prevent the cause is just awful
A lot of times when these things happen family members say that the shooter had mental problems or else people that knew him were not surprised at all. This guy was a firearms instructor in the Army Reserve and last summer was in a mental hospital because he heard voices telling him to kill.
In the town next to where I live a guy got laid off from his job so he went back with a rifle and started shooting up the place. Several people were killed. I asked one of the local cops about this guy and he told me that he was not surprised.
There is no system in place to protect the public from people like this. People who need mental health treatment often have no resources. Democrats keep screaming for gun control but nobody wants to address the real problem. The truth is that the most draconian gun control laws will not stop incidents. This incident is a good example of that.
gun control may have kept the guns out of his head. gun control involves expansion of background checks which would require disclosure of mental health issues by medical professionals who are not required to do so. the problem is people here gun control and they presume it means regulating the actual gun, but that hasn't really been on the democratic sides agenda (aside from suggestions but no actions to ban assault style weapons). the expansion of background checks, red flag laws and greater regulation of gun sales (as in background checks on private sales) has been the key arguments of democratic lawmakers
@madhatters4: There are already laws preventing people who have been committed for mental health treatment from legally possessing firearms. Yet this shooter had at least one.
@Avicenna there are laws but there are no consequences for not disclosing info when you buy a gun from a retail seller and get a background check. doctors can hide behind patient confidentiality. we see this all the time. the vegas shooter was had been in mental health facilities, was on anti-psychotics and had an arsenal of weapons. there are no background checks required for private gun sales.
that's why people want to strengthen background check laws. make it a law that disclosures MUST be made. Require background checks on private sales (e. g. gun shows)
@madhatters4 I purchased firearms for the first time last year. I got a concealed carry permit. I filed all the paperwork and jumped through all the hoops. It was a lot but I understand it is for safety. I was checked for a criminal record. My medical records were not checked. However, I don't think I would like anyone to have access to that. I admit that I was treated for depression over 20 years ago. I was prescribed anti depression drugs. I only took them for a few months and stopped. I was not really depressed I really just had a lot of things going on in my life and I was overwhelmed and angry. Doctors just want to give you drugs. Maybe if they got into my medical records they might have denied my application.
appreciate your response. i'm perfectly fine with gun ownership that goes through the right channels to determine a person is ok to own a gun.
i think medical history is important. i don't think they should just get to look at it all but if you are committed they're needs to be an evaluation as to why. reportedly this guy was committed for hearing voices telling him to commit violent acts. the vegas shooter was on anti-psychotics. that means he was prone to psychotic breakdowns
i fractured both my knees. it was illegal for me to drive for a period of time, for my personal and the safety of others. is it a incursion on my medical records? i don't feel it is.
i don't think depression should necessarily be a flag but there has to be something right?
Babes, it’s definitely not Hamas. They don’t have time to claim war on American soil when Americans are capable of doing it on their own. Please do not spread misinformation.
what do you mean what do we think? Obviously it’s not the news anyone wants to hear but that’s the reality.
It's always sad when innocent people are killed by violence. I don't know what the solution is.

Who the fuck said that he might be from Hamas? What would be the benefit? Only a lying Zionist would make such an unfounded assertion. Oh, so now Hamas is the new al-Qaida?
Too bad someone else didn't have a concealed carry gun. The death toll may have been a bit different.
I think it’s going to turn out bad when they catch up to him. From what I read he’s a reservist or something. Lost his job, got mental health issues. Supposedly a trained fire arms instructor. I’d be surprised if he just gives up if what I read is all true.
America needs to take mental health seriously. The most recent shooter was a military veteran. The VA does not actually help veterans. They do the bare minimum to stay funded just so they will have the optics of being helpful. Public schools should have free therapy and more insurances should have to cover therapy and other mental health options.
America has issues they are not addressing.. until they get dealt with this will continue to happen there..
this is not the guy you want to lose it. He's a fire-arms instructor with a military background. I think it's going to be a worse problem than your typical mass shooter. I bet he takes out even more people before getting put down.
If he doesn't take his own life before they find him
Sadly and Tragically...Only In America!
Actually, there are some countries that have more killings than America. I saw a program on that. I think Greenland had more than the US for one.
My opinion is honestly just confusion, out of the blue, I didn't even know about it before reading this. And that's quite a lot of casualties that's very unfortunate. A school?
bowling alley
He went to 2 locations. Bowling Alley and a restaurant.
Seriously? You really have to shoe so much ignorance?
Another batch of souls gone off the earth. 🤷♀️
Not surprising and honestly there will be more of this. I get Americans love guns, but I don't understand why or why it's so easy for people to get guns.
It's sad when innocent people are harmed. I feel for their families.
They have a flag law in Maine but it obviously failed
It’s another mass shooting by a mentally ill person and they haven’t even caught them yet
- and still no actual gun laws... fucking morons
you won't get it from him. he just wants to spout off typical right wing talking points like he matters. he doesn't
He obtained his weapon legally.
@Avicenna I'll repeat myself. None of the firearms in his possession were obtained illegally.
You know how you people say if gun possession was criminalized only criminals will posess guns? Well, here's an example of it. The instant he was committed it became criminal for him to posses firearms. But don't worry, ut won't be long until your far right disinformation bubble spins it this way thus leaning in to the fact that he obtained them legally, and away from the fact that our gun laws allow no follow up for things like this - it's only really criminal if you get caught and you people have gone well out of your way to ensure there no way to catch them until after they have shot a bunch of people. Because every time there is a mass shooting, gun sales skyrocket. It is a conflict of interest to let gun manufacturers write our gun laws, but it makes the libs mad to see babies with bullet holes so I guess you people are happy..
Nothing new, that's just America shrugs.
Opinion? It’s horrible.
Just another day in the USA.
I don't know. It has happens often here.
False flag.
