Politics aside, why do some people dislike Americans?

Multiple people were rude to me while I travelled , for literally no reason at all. I’m not asking for opinions on government, I’m talking about normal citizens.

I have nothing against Americans but when I travel I don't want to be anywhere near them. A lot of countries don't have the conveniences or variety of products that are available in the US and many American tourists love to brag about how much better they have it back home. When I travel, I wear a hat with a Canadian flag and my backpack has a Canadian flag on it so that I'm not mistaken for an American. It makes a big difference.

In our media we see some countries (especially in Europe) as an example we should follow, especially with health care. I think some Americans see other countries as 3rd world because we fight over sending tax dollars for foreign aid.

We are definitely divided over using money for our own issues versus other countries problems if that’s what you meant by culture war. Republicans are mainly conservative and all of the immigrants are Democrats so they fight for foreign aid

Most immigrants are conservative. Our immigration system is run by republicans so they weed out probable liberals. And yes, that's part of the culture war - making people mad about "sending money" (which rarely actually happens as cash but rather is largely just an arbitrarily assigned value to crap we weren't using anyway) to other countries because we should be helping our own citizens first, but then also making the same people enraged about spending money on US citizens because thats socialism or whatever. A culture of rage versus a culture of practicality. That's the culture war.

I don't think it has much to do with the state you live in. Immigrants are largely apolitical, since they can't vote anyway, but we generally select only wealthy immigrants for citizenship, who then get to feel like they are better than everyone they left behind and want to keep them out of this country more than any of us do. Poor immigrants tend to lean left as poor people do, since "maybe the rich shouldn't have six yatchs each while im starving" is kind of hard to distract with culture wars. But again they can't vote anyway, so it means nothing.

Most Americans who travel outside America - and most American news and headlines that make it internationally - really give the rest of you a poor reputation.

That aside, on an international stage everyone is judged a bit on their country's politics. And no country is as vocal about it as America.

I’ve been given nasty faces giving my ID , ripped off buying things when I used American cash and getting shorted MULTIPLE TIMES with foreign money as change (yes I should’ve known better). Lots of annoying things. I’m not talking about Europe

Not as a generalization, but there is the cliché of the loud, obese American tourist in short pants and Hawaii shirt yelling and blabbering in an otherwise quiet church, museum or other landmark.

I'm American and I travel a lot, and I agree. A lot of American tourists are idiots. I'd rank them right up there with Chinese and Russians in terms of "most annoying tourists"

I don't think we're on top, but I do agree that they're jealous because they think we are. But from my person observation, they're mainly jealous of their fellow countrymen who live in the U. S. For example, Mexicans in Mexico hate Mexicans from the US and Poles in Poland hate Poles who live abroad. And it all boils down to jealousy, like you said
