Was this a racist thing to say?

There was a group of girls at my school. They were playing a game were you had to guess the name of something by giving clues. The items they had to guess was chicken.

One was an Asian girl and the other European girl both Americans. The European girl said that you would find it in a Chinese restaurant. The Asian girl said that was a racist thing to say. Chicken is an item you find in Chinese food.

So who was in the wrong and was the girl really being racist?

Well, you'd find it at nearly any restaurant. Throwing the word "chinese" in there only indicates the race of those present was on her mind. That isn't necessarily racist but it could be. I would say at that age likely not (but again, maybe)

Oh my god, this is outrageous! It's clear to me that the European girl is a racist piece of garbage. How dare she even suggest that chicken is something that you'd find in a Chinese restaurant? Why do you see it as racist? Chicken and Duck are foods you find in Chinese food. Their just kids, they don't see race in the ways adults Do. I'm sure the European girl meant no offenses by it.

The clue was true for sure and I didn't see any racism with that statement. I can't even see why the Asian girl got upset as nothing derogatory was said or implied.

The trope of "Chinese only working in restaurants and takeout's" was a popular one in Europe for a long while.

Sort of like the Black people only eating chicken and watermelon is, in the USA.

Though it could be something personal she has with that girl.

the Asian girl is 100% wrong here. there is chicken in chinese food and many other kinds. china is in asia. the white girl was being accurate

you can't just tell people never to talk about where a food comes from or what it might contain.
