Is it right that I told my students to show respect for Congressman Santos?

He came to visit our school as it is in his district. I told the kids no matter what you hear, he is still a US Congressman, and they should refer to him as Congressman Santos and be respectful. Trying to teach them a good lesson.

Children should be taught to be respectful, even if they don't like somebody. Would they be allowed to show disrespect for the principal or a teacher or a police officer?

In principle yes but isn't he the guy that made up most of his life story like college degrees. So in that certain case I would say no because he's not a rolemodel to follow or do you want congress full of people that lied about their life just to increase their chance of election.
