Do you think the word 'narcissist' gets thrown around too much these days? or is it more so that we have gotten more educated on how to identify them?

Or maybe its a bit of both? I do see people use this a lot these days and while it can sometimes feel like its said a bit too liberally i also feel like we as a society know the signs of a narcissist easier now than we ever did in generations past.

I think the way the world is currently operating, it’s a lot easier to hold narcissistic characteristics. You have a lot of people on social media acting like they are in higher power than they actually are and they carry that into their real life interactions and relationships. Quite sad.

@Still-alive yes and it’s because you have more availability to create a mask online where people can blindly follow someone that is narcissistic and not realize that they treat people in their real life day to day life like shit

Yes, as well as other mental disorders. People say they have socialphobia because they are nervous during public speaking. Or a shy person will call themselves "anti-social" which being shy or nervous is not being anti-social.

People with Anti-social personality disorder often have a criminal background and are very aggressive, but again people just describe things as a mental disorder without any knowledge of what it actually means.

"I had a panic attack because a guy approached me" no you're just nervous. It's really annoying seeing people use medical terms and they obviously don't understand what it means.

I believe we are better educated in this area, especially young people, especially girls. So, I can see this improvement in my youngest daughter's friends' circle. They talk about toxic behaviours, ask questions and don't allow them to be treated in a toxic way.

Yeah it's like any other word it gets used too loosely. People can show some narcissistic tendencies and not actually have narcissistic personality disorder.

Did you know most serial killers had narcissistic personality disorder. Even over all of the other disorders in the DSM, it was narcissistic personality disorder that they shared in common.
