I displayed a picture of Fidel Castro here simply because he was a representative of your typical republic. Cuba under his government was a socialist republic, and it still is by the way. I'm not endorsing him, and there are no "hidden meanings" or implications behind my inclusion of his image. I had to select someone or something to represent that option, and I chose him. That's it, that's all there is to it.

I don’t know how it is New Zealand. But in America the last person people think about when it comes to “Republicans” is Fidel Castro.

Funny story during the 2020 election the Democratic National Socialists tried to promote Joe Biden as a “socialist” in Miami, FL.

The Spanish translation they used for socialist means the same thing as communist to Cubans. And Cuban Americans generally HATE communism and for good reason. Florida has gone very republican in recent years.

That 100 million figure is rubbish; it's a figure that was just pulled out of someone's rear end. Besides, it could be argued that capitalism has thus far killed 2 thousand million people in one way or another (ex. the two world wars, every other war of the 19th and 20th centuries, economic exploitation, slavery, misery, poverty).

Same thing happened in the USA at the time (the "dustbowl"), and in neither case were the governments of the respective nations to blame. Famines happen, people die.

@siri137 the Washington post does lean left but even they had to admit the horrors of Mao’s communist regime. He was the number one mass murderer in the 20th century. His government was responsible for more murder then Stalin (who was also a communist) and even Hitler.

You claimed that I was pulling statistics out “of my rear” but it’s the leftists who are using wishy washy arguments to claim capitalism has killed more people when there are much harder statistics and facts to prove communism is FAR more heinous. Capitalism isn’t without sin nor has its own shortcomings. But it’s a much better solution that rewards people on their own merits vs. a top down brutal centralized economy that brings misery among all in oppresses.

Socialism is nothing more than state ownership of the means of production while capitalism is the private ownership of the means of production. If a policy that is in place that prevents people from owning things (like subscription based services especially for physical (like what BMW or Toyota are doing with their cars) and digital products (like photoshop)), that is not a capitalistic policy.

Anarchy doesn't work in reality. You have no police or military then some communist country like North Korea will come in with their army, enslave you and force you to work for him.

It's a nice concept, but if you don't have a government and military then all the stuff you own is just sitting there for someone to take it. Look at Hong Kong they had an amazing economy then China just walked in and took over the country.

You're always going to need sacrifice some level of freedom for security.
