He was charged, convicted, sentenced, served his time, and now he's free (and running for office, I believe). That's how things are meant to work.

The people who conspired beforehand to lead the attack on the Capitol and the democratic process got much longer sentences. The people who called them all there in an attempt to illegally hold onto power have yet to face trial. The traitorous Republican lawmakers who were willing to go along with the plan look like they're all going to get away with it.

Maybe you didn't, but what do you think this question is about if it's not "look at the people not being violent", as if that proves the violence didn't happen? Or that everyone there was ignorant of the plan to steal the presidency from the rightful winner. They weren't all ignorant, they weren't all peaceful; the foot soldiers who were in on it are facing 20 years in prison; what's missing is the conviction of the ringleaders.

It wasn't supposed to be peaceful, there was supposed to be an assault on the Capitol, that's why Proud Boys and Oath Keepers are going to spend decades in prison. There weren't millions there, tens of thousands, maybe.

What made it worse than 9/11 or Pearl Harbor was that (1) neither of those things could have stopped American democracy, and (2) neither of those things were done by Americans attacking their own duly elected government, led by their loser president.
