I think what needs to happen is people need to change their perceptions just a bit for any policy to work. There needs to transparency and what happens right now is you have people with skewed perception based on presumed facts. You have people from either side giving worst case scenarios that give people the impression with few places we can look to verify the information. They do this because people in fear are easier to control. Look at Covid. Not debating covid but look at how easy it was for them to control things. So now they paint a picture of nothing but rapist and drug mules coming over the border and I'm sure that there is. I don't know how it works but my opinion is that I rather have documented people than undocumented. It's not an easy fix though if we look at people coming as problems then they will be treated poorly and become problems. We also have to look inward and realize that drugs are a problem and we blame everybody for bringing drugs into America. We spend an obscene any of money trying to stop this. Money to find these people and arrest them so we can support them while they are in prison. I'm curious if we spent the same amount of money on research finding a way to stop the demand for these drugs. If we didn't have the demand for this stuff people willing to spend a lot of money for these drugs we wouldn't have people trying to get them here. We can't have a free for all or open borders either that didn't go well for my fellow Natives either. Bottom line is we need Data and information that we can trust to make the best decisions Not

Well unfortunately we already have the data & info about the demand but no matter what we have politicians don't like to place their policies directly on what would be better (especially cause it would hurt their bottom line and doesn't fit their personal values).

1. Skilled people are certified as skilled already. If a job requires a degree you just don't say that you have a degree. It's up to immigrants to have the credentials and that's how the current immigration system is supposed to work.
2. It's not up to the United States or US taxpayers to train or educate immigrants. We do give out student and vocational visas. If a company wants to employ a worker and train them that should be up to them or if a foreign student can pat for their college no problem. We already do this but a visa is not citizenship, perhaps they can earn their citizenship or perhaps not.

@findacure4wokeness often the bar is not lowered. A lot of the scientists that come from the US have the intelligence & academic ability to do advanced degrees in the first place. We aren't just taking some guy who slogged through a degree because they managed to get a loan and a college acceptance letter.
For instance I was talking to a svottish girl a while back about their education system. Apparently they can leave school at 16. I asked if that makes it more difficult to get a job without a high school diploma but she said their schools don't do that at all, instead they do something called GCSE which is 6 or more individual subjects together and its equivalent to a high school diploma in the US. They can then stay on at school for doing something called A levels in 3 different subjects or do them in a community college day or night or opt to do a technical degree, now apparently these are the equivalent of 2 years of college degree in the us, apparently most UK students do this. Then they go on if they choose to go to university to study another 3-4 years of college. So UK kids are already graduated high school at age 16, done two years of college by 18 and go on to do another 4. Their kids are way ahead of ours.
