Did 2023 feel like it went by fast?

I swear every month felt like a week, then it was over like tf 😭😂

Sort of. But, time has been going by faster, for me, anyway, for the past 15 or 20-some years. I think it has to do with how old you are. When you're a kid, a WEEK takes forever!! Today, a week starts and 2 or 3 days later, it's next week! I feel like I just finished watching all my Christmas movies about 5 or 6 months ago! Now, I'm gonna do it again in 2 weeks, which feels like a couple days away!! Winter used to last half a year and you couldn't WAIT for it to be over and summer took forever to pass by! Today, winter gets here and, in about 2 months, if that, spring is coming and, the next thing you know, it's summer then fall is coming in a couple weeks but only lasts another 2 or 3 weeks before winter comes back.
I used to get all kinds of shit done in a single day! Now, I get up and a few hours later, it's night and I gotta think about getting to bed and I'm lucky if I got anything done!! When I was a kid, I'd get up, eat breakfast, watch a little t. v. for an hour or 3, go jump in the pool for a couple hours, get on my bike and ride over this way (about 4 to 6 miles away) to spend a few hours at the various record stores, maybe stop here to see grandma or go 3 miles from here to see my cousin, Billy, go back home for dinner, get out my Hot Wheel track and cars and play with those with my brother and friends for a couple hours, go up to my room and have a bash on the drums, come back downstairs and watch t. v. for a few hours, hang out on the porch next door and tell dirty jokes for a few hours, go back home and play with records `til dad went to bed then, go downstairs and watch t. v. for another few hours and eat something and then go to bed.
Today, I get up, spend an hour or two on the computer, get breakfast, get MAYBE one project downstairs done, get dinner and eat that, spend another few hours doing projects on the computer and then go to bed! Next day, do it all again!

Years go by faster and faster as you get older. All years go by fast for me.

But this year was actually a bit slower because it was pretty full with a lot going on. This year totally broke out of a long term pattern and took me by surprise. Good things, not bad things. Things have potentially taken a dramatic turn in direction. I'm still trying to wrap my arms around it.

I think time goes faster as you get older because of the way our memory and sense of time works. In the present, we pay a lot of attention to the clock and calendar to measure time. But in the past, we tend to think of the passage of time in terms of memories, events, and important things in our lives. We think in terms of "our time in high school", "our time in college", "our time working at such-and-such company", "our time dating so-and-so", "our time raising children", "our time in retirement", etc.

When we look back at our lives, we tend to think of those periods in our lives, not calendar time. When we are young, things can change quickly, from year to year. As we get older, things don't change as fast. Memories of periods in our lives might be many years or decades, whereas when we are young they might be measured in months or just a few years. If you think back on life, it will be in chunks that are not aligned with the calendar.

Time is a measure of change. The sense of the passage or time is also a measure of change.

It's just that you've gone through the same 12 months cycle before many times. This is why as you get older it will only feel faster and faster.

If for some reason we where to change the calendar to different divisions in terms of what is a week and what is a month then we would all live a very slow year because our perception would be all jumbled
