How would you keep control over the political debates?

The debates that i have watched with more than one person. They avoid questions and talk over the others just like children. Butt in while the others are talking while the question wasn’t directed to them.
If I were in charge. The candidates would be put in sound proof booths and their microphones would be turned off if they spoke out of turn.
Another way would be to have them wear bark collars that would start shocking them when their time was up and keep increasing voltage until they stopped.
How would you allow for a controlled debate?

I would get a wooden yardstick like my teachers use to use in us when we were out of line. If they broke a rule, I would slam down that yardstick on a table near them and also verbally reprimand them for breaking the rules and stop them from speaking.

OR

If they spoke out of line and continued to talk over the other candidates, I would say they had to go and sit in a designated chair for 45 seconds to make up for lost time for speaking while they were speaking and it was their turn.

If they continue a t like children then they will get the same punishment as a child.

Of course they would have to have a bigger than normal size for Chris Christie.

When your sign is lit up, people can hear you talking. When it's not lit up, you're wasting your time. And the controlling of the sign and microphones, should NOT be left up to the moderator. Someone behind the scenes should be controlling that.

Hannity proved to be the worst moderator in history.

It has to start with the American people. They behave in this manner because the American people don't make them pay for it at the polls. Civilty went out the window long ago. And Americans will forgive a charismatic a**hole.

I would have a long pointer with a rubber tip. I would walk behind the candidates and if one of them did not behave I would give them a nice whack on the head.

Just hold an interview with one candidate at a time, so you can nail them down and put pressure on them when they try to avoid questions.

How about no politics? I rather debate pizza VS burgers rather than something trivial, that was apparently invented to distract and divide us like peasants getting physical with one another.

The very first thing I would do is switch off mics at the end of their time. If they continue to talk their mics stay off for the penalty time. Do you really want a hot head embarrassing the US talking over world leaders?

You have to go to long-form debates. Debates should be a minimum of three hours long.
