They’ll go back down but not until profound inflation caused by dedollarization and monetization of the debt. The petrodollar system that allowed the US to export the consequences of inflation and excessive spending is unwinding. The Fed can’t tame inflation with rate hikes alone because extreme government spending is one of the drivers. I expect some relief is possible next year if bonds get a relief rally, but then the bond market could run into serious trouble and we’ll pay the piper. It’s not clear to me that the dollar will survive, and even if it does inflation won’t be tamed until both fiscal discipline and government spending are brought into order. Without a large industrial base, this means almost everyone in the US will be poor. At that point, prices could go down in earnest.

@KrakenAttackin I hope I’m wrong but I don’t see how. Buying of treasury bonds was already shifting from foreign to domestic sources before the war. Since the war began this trend has accelerated and the feds have had several failed bond auctions. Worst of all, after the financial crisis in 07-08, the idiots forced the big banks to hold treasury bonds as “safe” assets, as if interest rates would never go up. Well, they’re going up and, despite the occasional pullback, are probably entering a generational trend up. I don’t see how we avoid a major banking crisis. It seems the fools who run this place either don’t understand this or simply don’t care.

Some specialty items that have taken a big jump may go down a little but the staples we buy on a weekly basis like milk and eggs will remain high. It may take a few years for wages to catch up if inflation gets to be around 2%, It's not looking good.

I sure hope so but, the way companies are, as soon as they find out people are WILLING to pay a lot more for their shit, they are less likely to lower the prices, even if they no longer have to spend as much to make their shit.

The prices to go back down is to have a depression not a recession but a depression. Or slowly remove the dollars that were totally fed into the economy. Which will eventually create a depression. That is a reset and bring back the gold standard.

The subway sandwich had an entire avacado 🥑 sliced and the whole avacado was put on the sandwich plus eggs, sliced black olives and mayonnaise. The avacado is what drives up the price.
