Why does Russia look at NATO in Ukraine as a threat?

Let's look at Russia other borders for a second. Desert and tundra for thousands of miles just zero success of a land invasion with tanks. Ukraine has a unique opening into the heart of Russia that could be advantages thats why it became a buffer state for the ussr and the people was just treated like lambs to the slaughter. Thats why when the ussr broke apart Ukrainian became its own thing again.

The reality is the west just want to trade oil. War isn't profitable anymore. just trade goods and we both win. Everyone could have their cake and eat it too geopolitically but putin wants dominance before he dies as a the last kgb bond villain i guess.

But really it's about oil. Most of it comes from russia. And Russia wants to be the gatekeeper for all of the world's energy, since it has nothing else to export. With the EU pushing for renewable energy, that's a substantial threat to russias economy and so Russia figures if they control even more of the oil and food they will be able to deny oil and food to anyone developing renewable energy, or at least force them to commit to annual contributions, so they can't do that.

Did you know that when it comes to natural resources, Russia has the most of just about everything from gold to uranium, diamonds to coal? Right now they're developing their Arctic regions, in anticipation of the warmer weather that everyone is expecting, and that the seas to the north of Siberia will be a new trade route that will bypass the Suez Canal.

Uranium and coal are also used as energy sources. I didn't know about diamonds - thought those mostly came from Africa.

The point is it wants to be a gatekeeper nation and NATO doesn't want to have to bow to Russia in order to do anything. That was why NATO was created in the first place. Because it is. How would the U. S. president view a nation like Canada or Mexico joining an alliance that was openly hostile to the United States? I really do wish people would try to see things from Russia's perspective occasionally!

Because for them it would be like Texas leaving the United States and joining up with Mexico, and then having Mexico aligned with Russia. That would be hard for Americans to put their minds around, but that is what is like for Russia.

There are like 6 different major military bases in Texas. Which is technically Federal property and land, but if Texas pulls out, we lose all that oil resources and fed land would refer to the state, who in turn would give it to Mexico. All the military equipment that would be left in Texas could be used to invade New Mexico or Arizona. Thats how the Russians feel about Ukraine.

Russia and the United States differ on ideology. Russia wants the iron curtain intact to create a greater distance for Moscow and Ukraine being apart of NATO puts Russia at a strategic disadvantage. Its no different how the United States felt about Cuba becoming Communist. It put the United States at a strategic disadvantage especially when the Soviet could attack mainland US in close range.

Putin has made it clear that he wants to re-create the former Soviet Union, and no ex-Soviet state is more crucial to that goal than Ukraine (I don't think the CCP is going to let him conquer Kazakhstan and the other "stans" even if he gets out the Ukraine war with enough of a military to launch more wars of conquest. That's why Putin makes such a big deal about Ukraine and NATO. Now, bringing Ukraine into NATO is an idea that is beyond insane.
