It is a crime to physically assault or hurt someone (you could end up in jail for it even or get a restraining/harrasment order put on you), but why not emotional or psychological? Sometimes, that can be even more, if not just as, damaginig?

Because that person is in control of their emotions, not me. You choose how you feel each day. You may not think so but those feelings are choices we all make. It’s up to you as to how you react, how you feel to something that someone says to you.

Libel and defamation doesn't hurt me because I know the truth. Smear campaigns or badmouthing, yeah, but feelings DO hurt and they are important. Don't pretend like they're not. It can just JUST AS painful as physical pain, psychological, mental, emotional pain and suffering. However, the first things you said, they can be hard to prove and the results aren't as immediate because of that. You'll probably need a good lawyer too unfortunately.
