Ok let's imagine a scenario. Africa is struggling in many areas. People are extremely poor. But in the USA and other first world countries we have the mega rich with their mansions and 25 super cars while people in Africa starve.

Should we redistribute all the money we have? Take away the cars. Take away the mansions. Liquidate assets and help Africa?

Well here is another perspective:

Let's say African countries become liberal democracies. They have courts and laws and respect for individual rights.

They allow foreign companies to come to their countries, invest, and over time, those countries will raise their entire populations out of poverty.

Can we raise every country in Africa out of poverty just by taking away rich people's wealth in first world countries? I don't know. We could help for sure.

But can we raise them truly out of poverty? Can we equip them wirh the means to take care of their own people?

I don't think so. I think that if African struggling economies were to open up their economies for the "greedy rich" to capitalize on, their entire populations will be brought out of poverty besides of course a small minority as every rich country has SOME poor. The point is that the majority rise into a new middle class.

So is greed bad? Greed which causes production, causes investments, causes people's standard of life to improve drastically.

Greed is so evil yet, there is no way to redistribute the evil greedy people's money in a way that cures proverty.

The only cure to poverty is a free market where wealth is produced. But a free market is a place for Greed. Where people can be greedy, sell a product, make a profit, while elsewhere the poor starve.

But we can't save the poor just by helping. They need to have the means to raise their own out of poverty. The only way is the "evil" greedy capitalist system.

I don't know. I think Greed is good. It produces and increases our standard of living FAR more than "kindness" does.

Humans aren't changing on any fundamental level. The circumstances they find themselves in are changing. The anthrosphere is changing. But humans themselves, not so much.

They've always been greedy. They've long regarded being self-centred as a bad thing, and yet selfishness is the most natural thing there is, and all society constantly pushing altruism will achieve is that everyone expects everyone else to be altruistic while failing to be so themselves.

Humanity could be better in theory. It could be more efficient. It could find a realistic path closer to its alleged ideals with attainable methods... in theory. In practice humans are too stupid and stuck in their ways to pull this off. They will continue preaching the virtues of altruism while bitching and complaining that everyone else is the problem and acting like a bunch of myopic pricks.

Oh... and most other animals would do the same if they were as good at survival as humans are. The only benefit other species have is that there are fewer of them to screw each others' lives up.

Animals don't have it better though. Well, if you count smaller brains and ignorance as 'better', then yes.

We're wasting our potential. That is for sure. We're being awful to each other; many. But we're supposed to focus on the good, right...

Not the word I'd use. A few have got greed down to a fine art. You usually see them spouting self righteous bullshit about saving the world form co² while they fly their private planes around and the benefits of eating insects are discussed over a steak dinner.

If we're going to save the world we should consider eliminating the top 1%...
