Why are the wealthy often shielded from criticism in society, while the poor face constant scrutiny?

It’s because the poor often engage in violent crimes given their environment.

They are not being criticized by being poor in itself (nor ever should they). No. But it’s the problems that come out of that environment which catches people’s attention (drugs, gang violence, etc).

Yes, but the rich are not immune to that either. There are plenty of them who do drugs, but they are homeless on the streets in everyone's view. Jeffery Epstein got away with harassing and comiting his crimes for decades. One of Jeffrey Epstein's friends bought an under age person for his birthday from France so he can do bad things to her, but that friend of his is still out there and no one has arrested him. Same with Prince Andrew a guy who was close with Jeffrey Epstein.

They commit the same amount of crimes and they have police in their pocket. They donate enough money to the police, so they don't get policed as hard.

There is a long time double standard for affluent vs. poor when it came to criminal justice and it’s disgusting.

The affluent however can afford much better legal representation (classic example was OJ Simpsons “dream team” of lawyers). Also if they are politically connected like Epstein was then they often have dirt on other powerful/rich people. There is NO WAY Epstein voluntarily committed suicide. I don’t buy that for a second. He hadn’t even been sentenced yet and the last people who talked to him said he was in a good mood before he was found dead. But he had A LOT of dirt on very powerful people.

Also if you think legal corruption is bad in the western countries then you should spend some time in Latin American where their is an absolutely insane double standard for the rich vs the poor. You can literally pay your way out of anything in Mexico or Columbia. Just ask Pablo Escobar. His greatest fear was being extradited to the United States. There is a reason why Chapo is serving a life sentence at ADX supermax and not in a Mexican prison where he can literally live a posh lifestyle and escape easily or serve a max of 20 years (which is ridiculous).

That’s not to say western countries are beyond reproach. Of course they aren’t. But I recommend you do more research on exactly why this double standard is vs. the surface view and “feeling” about it. However I will say this double standard is slowly improving. People like Sam Bankman Fried would of probably got a much lighter sentence 20 years ago (he’s looking at decades in prison). Also remember Subway’s Jared Fogle? The judge who sentenced him gave a much harsher sentence then even the prosecution wanted. His fame and money didn’t save him.

Also while I do believe there needs to be equal justice I don’t believe we should just Willy nilly let anybody out of jail (no cash bails). Several leftist DAs have been doing this recently in major American cities. The result is skyrocketing crime with violent criminals being let out in the streets. Crime rates have skyrocketed in recent years.

The bigger problem is why people are prone to falling into poverty in the first place. That’s a tougher but more important issue. It has to do with drugs, broken families, poor education, bad influences, etc. People growing up in single parent households are especially at risk.

Sure being poor in itself is not a crime , but committing crimes because you are poor is not an excuse either , wealthy people are not shielded from anything in these times , but they do have shelter , and they do have enough , so naturally that makes things a little easier with regard to privacy , these days the wealthy face constant criticism.

wealthy people have the luxury of privacy, skeletons are able to remain in the closet. The dysfunction that often comes with poverty is out on display so it’s easy to judge.

I’ve wondered this in my political talks. So many right wingers shield them from tasks of higher tax rates and less influence in politicians. Thats the real swamp.
