Well, yeah. That's what happens when you allow as a nation politicians to run for office when they invest in the companies that are getting subsidized to millions or billions of dollars.

And this attitude is drawn between both party lines. As a third party you're myself. I see both sides bitching about the opposite side. But they're both doing the same things. One side is just doing some things less privately and the other side is doing things also less privately. And you're correct we cannot forward a military budget and provide for the rest of the stuff you mentioned.

Some of those items though that you mentioned are not problems of the federal government which is responsible for the defense and Military budgets of the United states. Some of those things like roads, school lunches. Are definitely issues of the individual several States. And do not fall under the federal budget or the Constitution that the government operates under.

And, yes the politicians are actually correct for once those things are way too expensive. But they're not telling you why they're so expensive. And they are so expensive because they get elected to office, and usually nine times out of 10 a politician is either already rich, and when you're rich there's a good chance you're greedy too and you yearn for more money. And when you yearn for more money and you have money, you can get into offices and then pass laws and regulations that make you and your buddies more money because you're greedy. And in all those sectors, socialized medicine prescriptions and all the other good things for society that they say or too expensive, they're the cause of why it's so expensive and they're greedy pockets. It also goes with insurance companies also pharmaceutical companies oil companies. So they're right about these things being expensive but they're the cause of it.

And the military industrial complex, that's just a worldwide faction of greedy people. And also have power

Same nonsense happens in the netherlands to. They have been consistently closing down hospitals because its expensive. Closed down most funeral homes for cost savings. Happily give money to other countries and had infinite funding for the lockdown. They justified the lockdown on there not being enough hospital beds for everyone otherwise and haven't reopened a single hospital, and to my knowledge even closed some again.

The military spending that this country engages in is completely out of control and totally unreasonable. It represents the fact that the US defense industry has essentially captured many, if not all of our representatives in Congress and they do it's bidding. This is major corruption that goes uncorrected year after year.

I just think that they make the weapons to make them in order to have an excuse to send ridiculously huge bills to the government and get them promptly paid. I guess the part that annoys me the most in regards to this is that Republicans appear to completely have forgotten that you sometimes need to spend money to make money. Those things you mentioned there are investments, they bring very real returns both to society and even to the government. Cutting government spending in those areas will just lower the productivity of society which in turn lowers the revenue of the government going into the future.

true. the issue is we are living way beyond our means spending $ we don't produce by confiscating (borrowing) from the value of the currency, which is a global confiscation... for now... since it's still in a position of power. When that falters, if it ever does, it's going to be miserable for a lot of humans as change occurs. Historically speaking, you better arm yourself or dig a big hole to live in if it goes bad.

The Democrats were able to get the ACA passed, but neither party has been willing to hold the defense budget to a reasonable level. @Soteris living here I can say our country is not following Christ and in many ways makes it very difficult to serve via faith.
But to judge us so is a high measure... cmon... we just took in large number of people and put them up in the most expensive hotels with high level food, and they've had to do nothing in return. Pretty nice, just not refined. And we gave our friends weapons to get their friends back from being held hostage by their distant relatives... pretty nice.
If anything, our God fell into being "mammon" and we've lost our way for prior generations were in the catholic churches that are now emptied. But every day is a new day, and my church is full... some are returning.
oh those days of having no knowledge or faith, it was easier. I'd like to see a spiritual revival so we served Christ better me included. If you want to represent nothing and randomness, I wish you well with it, but strikes me as much a faith statement as anything else. Maybe the world will be a lovely and wonderful place once all those Jesus freaks are gone...

Even if that is true, which I doubt it is since it carries all the hallmarks of people lying about the treatment of immigrants and refugees in Sweden. About how they live in actual fucking mansions and are feed restaurant food from personal chefs and whatnot which all turns out to be bullshit.

But even if it was true, is that not your own fault? One would assume that the reason you would have to resort to having them stay in "the most expensive hotels with high level food" is because every other hotel is full and that your government has literally zero preparations for how to deal with displaced populations. Which was going to happen one way or another.

Having to resort to desperate measures like housing them in high end hotels is BAD, not GOOD. It shows how little effort has been made to help people and you were only forced into acting at the last minute when reality forced your hand. Neglect is the word one might use.

@Soteris It is true from reports in the city I live near, could send video if you want. I'm not saying all. And some of our people live in the streets and beg. And yes, it is our fault... I take responsibility! Note that! That is THE problem our country has and can fix. System is overwhelemd... which is why some wanted a barrier, some went to other countries to stop the tide, sent them money, etc.. It's all an economic mess, you know that. Can we send some to Sweden? A few boats and all is well.
Note: If I had my way, we'd take in a family. My family supports, I've not seen a way to do it yet.

@msc545 - I don't recall saying I'm ok with the military expenditure of 800 billion, I'm not. It's necessary to maintain our facade of wealth, for now, but with better policies... maybe could be reduced. Powerful lobby though... thus why I like outsiders, not insiders.

The issues we are arguing daily online are how to manage a global empire with a declining currency and manage wealth distribution. That's what it all is... history repeats. Without the navy and airforce, and tech advantage, we would not be living the life we have.

I repeat, unless we get this spending under control, seems to me... our debt goes up, debt service increases... social spending gets less. They (neither side) cuts back on military very often... for that's what they want to control.

It's what was top of mind in media feed.. google filters and what I selected. so what was thinking about. I chose not to get into military budgets which I've seen come up recently. I complained about that for months in the years prior to no avail, supported Ron Pauls positions long past.. but was out of mind. I've commented on it not just here. True that the squeeky wheel gets the grease. ITs not left or right media, it's the way the search filter in google works (based on prior) and what I've clicked on... it keeps feeding more of what I saw before, and I look at various media threads.
I was into "human trafficking" issue, so I got a lot of threads on that.
I'm sure we could have a good idea exchange on how to optimize spending and allocate to social benefit. Ex. I have no issue with helping migrants in fact, saving their lives from dying on long journeys, and allocating them to sponsor homes... I opened that idea. One idea is to keep them in mexico, where it is much cheaper than Nyc.. write them a check for the service, when they are approved for work/entry, allow them in, or allow them work in Mexico. win win win... and cheaper. It's a game of $ for migrants. Homeless, another issue. Military and govt specifically, the waste is ingrained. Do what Vivek said... start over, negotiate ends to the wars to start. PS I did not support Iraq invasion, that save us a trillion and million lives.
