Because the contestants want to be. Men dont really care to much about more than just physical appearance.

Look up the origins of beauty pagents. It was popularized by PT Barnum. The same man who is known for his freak shows.

That aside, the issue isn't willingness. The issue is the culture behind it. Women are taught they are valued for their looks, and this attracts many of them to these contests to recieve validation. There is also a toxic culture behind it. The pagent industry is riddled with sexual harassment/assault. So is the modeling industry.
